Reuss, you wrote in part:
"Of all ignorance, the ignorance of the educated is the most dangerous. Not only are educated people likely to have more influence, they are the last people to suspect that they don't know what they are talking about when they go outside their narrow fields."

That reminded me that my Mother, born in 1901 and a country school teacher,
referred to such people as "educated fools".

what are your realistic thoughts on how public schools can be improved?

Are the private schools and schools run by religious organizations any better
than the public schools.

As to public education funding, Michigan's Lottery Net Proceeds got to the
public education system. On the face of it, that sounds great. However, I
wonder if it is so great. Doesn't the State Legislature have good information
as to the likely net proceeds from the Lottery and don't they take that in to
account when they decide how much public money will go to public education.
They think public education should get $X dollars (NOT HOW MUCH IT NEEDS) and
then reduces that amount by the estimated Lottery revenue.

Are there efficiency measures public school could take?

Are there efficiency measures public colleges and universities
could take to reduce the amounts they "beg" from the
state legislature.

This was way tooooo lonnng. I apologize.

American education to be in a dismal state????

Yes, so dismal we just landed a vehicle on Mars to
gather samples from Mars and return to earth.

Yes, so dismal we have developed Covid 19 vaccines
to stop the possible death of the earth's population.

Yes, so dismal we medical scientists and researchers
who have made it possible for people to live beyond
60 years of age.

Yes, I could go on and on but you get the idea

Mark, I am sure this is a silly question for you.
Do you know of W. Royal Stokes? I just became
aware of him a few days ago in scanning the Washington
Post. I don't subscribe to it despite it modest subscription
fee. However, I do like to scan the headlines. Having been a jazz
music lover a very long time, I was surprised I never heard
of him. He is a really extraordinary person with enough
talent and skill for 100 people.

I wonder if there are other jazz aficionados that have
never heard of him.

I always enjoy you links.

Thanks for sharing your excellent photography
and the very creative Chihuly' work.

It has been a long time since I have seen any
of his work "in person".

I really like the images.

I think the Carolina Wren is identical to the Marsh Wren
we get at our feeders. Maybe there are small differences
that I am missing.

Mark, I love your taste in music and I know that your musical
interests seem to have no bounds. That pretty well sums up my
musical interests but to a lesser degree.

Now comes the the "bummer". The meal you cooked that you
showed us today in another post looked exquisite....however,
I am totally unable to tolerate meat other than "well done".😒
And that, when we were able to go out to eat, drove restaurant
chefs up the wall.

Your posts are a delight to read and I look forward to the links
you provide.

I was surprised at the number amateur fans on UHH. I am
a fan, having had a license eons ago.

If you are not familiar with this site, you may want to check
it out. There is new stuff every day and it pretty well covers ham
radio and radio in general from A to Z

Shortwave Listening Post.....https://swling.com/blog/

Hope you give it try and enjoy it.

Mark, based on the number of responses (and the length and depth) to your Rachmaninov
post, one would think this is a classical music forum. The responses were thoughtful and
in depth rather than glib, "off the cuff". The post and the responses left me with a good feeling
that I cannot adequately put into words. You bring out the best in the forum.

The Monk snip is from a subscription publication and thus you
would not have been able to read it. I send links where ever
possible.

Thanks for you reply.

Wow!
Thanks for sharing this great artistry.

I scrolled down the other listings that came up on the
YouTube site and saw a listing for Stardust by Willie Nelson
(hope I don't offend you by mentioning Willie Nelson
in the presence of John Coltrane) However, Nelson is
one of my absolute favorite artists, despite his battle
with the "hard stuff". His vocal phasing and timing is
is the best, except maybe Frank Sinatra.

I have attached a "Windows Snipping Tool" story about Monk
that I just saw today. This is the first time I have attached
something. Hope I can do it.

Mark, puns must be music to your ears (jazz).

See if you have heard this one.

This took place in the time of kings and court jesters.

This king very much hated puns and his jester was a master at puns
and took every opportunity to show the king what a pun master he was.
Finally, the king could take no more of the jesters puns so he
told the jester that one more pun and the king would have the
jester hung.

Of course, the jester could not resist showing off and the next day, launched
a masterful pun in the king's presence. Immediately the king
ordered the jester be hung and so the king's guards quickly took
the jester to the dungeon to await the king's further orders regarding
the hanging.

A few days went by and the king was regularly thinking about his
order to hang the jester. The more he thought about it the more the
king began to think he had been too harsh in ordering the jester be
hanged. So finally he ordered the jester be brought from the dungeon
to again face the King. The king said to the jester that he had decided
not to hang the jester and hoped that the time in the dungeon was
punishment enough to cause the jester not to make puns in the presence
of the king.

Of course, the jester was happy and joyful and in the presence of the king,
and in a very loud, happy and joyful voice he shouted, "no noose is good noose."

This was very long. I hope it was worth the long read.

Thanks for the post.

It renewed some memories. I was stationed at Ellington
Air Force Base in mid-1951, just as it was reopening because
of the Korean War.

Long shot: was anyother UHHer ever stationed there???
