Thomas Sowell Common Sense in a Senseless World

The attached is a video on the career of Thomas Sowell, starting with his birth in NC, move to Harlem, NY and further career as an economist, historian, and as I discovered a gifted amateur photographer, which is why I'm posting this topic. SPOILER ALERT: Thomas Sowell is a conservative libertarian. He's also a Nikon guy. As most UHHer's know, there are only three types of people in the world: Nikon people, Canon people and people of no consequence. (In artillery parlance, that's called firing for effect). Enjoy as you wish.

I have read a whole pile of his books and followed his ideas, I have about a half shelf of his stuff - I miss his regular column in my local paper. I recommend his work to people to help understand conservative thought and on more than one occasion people were surprised to find I am not black myself. Who says the people whose ideas you like or agree with have to be the same race/ethnic group as you?

Looks like a poor little lamb who has lost their way..... and in artillery parlance, apparently a direct hit!

I began following Thomas Sowell about 35 yrs ago and was surprised with this video by how wide his interest are and, a total surprise to me, that he was a gifted photogrpaher. You can google Thomas Sowell photography and check out some of his stuff on line. He appears to have a penchant for B/W with a definite Ansel Adams influence.

I know a lady who is a Senior US Appeals Court Judge and years ago when I lived close to their home I would loan her and her husband (a state judge) conservative books and articles. Including Dr. Sowell's things. She told me that the things I loaned her definitely changed the way she saw things and even influenced some of her decisions and writings.

And I have looked at collections of his photographs. Some very good work there in both B&W and Color.

Dr. Sowell is a really great man. I recall reading his book "Inside American Education" in the 1980s and have followed him since. It is too bad that politicians have largely ignored him.

In "Inside American Education" he assesses American education to be in a dismal state. Unfortunately, it has become much worse since the 1980's.

So true. I've heard him described as the greatest philosopher of the 20th century. (maybe 21st as well)

They ignore him because they can't refute anything he says and don't want to be embarrassed by trying. At one point in this video, an interviewer reads of a list of half a dozen books and ask Sowell if he knows what they are, then responds they're the books you've written since you turned 80.
