I keep hearing how some processors are non-destructive. I have never saved a processed image over the original. Would anyone do that? I always save it in a different folder with a different name. I can't imagine anyone wiping out the original after making some changes. "Non-destructive" seems to be a non-issue.

Totally agree with you !

I was in a street market and wanted to try capture the colourful canvas roofs of some of the stalls. I didn't have a camera with me so whipped out my iPhone 10. I only took two shots and when I got home I downloaded them on to my PC. I was startled to see the second photo. How could this have happened??

It's nothing to do with my PC. The photo is as you see it on my iPhone.

Has it happened again, after the photo safari ?
If so something is wroung with the camera, if not maybe the camera was set in an inbetween setting just that day.

I need some clarification: My understanding is that if you take the pixels dimensions, and divide by 300 that will give you the size that you can safely expect to be able to print. i.e. for example, if the size is 6000X4000, then you can print it 20"X13.3". Keeping that same ratio, can you print it larger? Say 60X39.9(or 40 for round numbers). Thinking primarily about landscape pano's.

You can use most photo manipulation programs to up the pixels. My old 2008 Photoshop CS4 does it, and as a precaution I up the pixels by 15% each step, even 10% each time helps keep the sharp focus.
When, in 2006, I bought my first pro digital 35mm camera (Fujifilm S2 Pro....6mpx) we made a 40x60" print for the lobby of an office building for my clients architect, Beyer Blinder Belle. Dugall Labs in Manhattan handled the 'interpilation" in their computer. Looked so great I took a photo of the lobby with my photo in the background.

The Moses Cone Memorial Park is an approximately 3500 acre homesite developed by Moses Cone for he and his family. Cone made a fortune in the textile industry and came to be known as the " Denim King ". Around 1903, he built a 13,000 square foot home on the estate. Cone had a unique hobby. He loved to build roads and trails.
The estate has about 25 miles of carriage roads and hiking trails are all over the place. Among other features, he created two large lakes.

One of the lakes is named Bass Lake. The walk around the perimeter of the lake is approximately one mile in length. Over the years, I've made this walk many, many times. This past Fall, the leaf colors in the area were extraordinarily beautiful. This picture shows one small section of the walk.

Do you understand the reason why ProPhoto is the largest color space that no monitor or printer can reproduce ?

Probably for Lithographic reasons !
In advertising, one sends the client a TIFF file for printing reproduction with the most detail.

Lake Apopka, showing off!
This is the second GBH swallowing a Snake this past weekend at the wildlife drive.
I thought someone was saying we haven't showed enough respect for the show offered.
So here is a more extensive set showing how much difficulty these birds go through to get a good meal down the gullet.
At one point He/She got the Snake most of the way down tail first, then decided that wasn't going to work. Hacked it back up and started over!!
It could be the same bird as the first one I showed. Pretty sure it's not the same Snake!

I recently watched this video about using a digital teleconverter. Years ago the wisdom was to Never use one. However I am now very tempted to try and set it up and use one of my Custom modes. Have any of you tried using the digital teleconverter in your camera. It will only give you a jpeg file, and can not be used for BIF shots.
This is the link to what I watched:

BTW, in the video, he speaks very quickly in a heavy English accent, sometimes difficult to understand !

I agree on two fronts: l- jpgs saved at 12 (max setting) are as good as any psd or tiff.

2- my Leica V-Lux is labeled as a all-in-one camera with 25-400mm lens. But it has a built in digital zoom extender, up to 1600mm. I prefer to use it up to 1000, when higher, you will notice the interpelation.

On that date I was at Woodstock, but was not in Woodstock as the concert was held in Bethel, NY some 40 miles southwest of Woodstock, NY.

In 1969, l was in Montreal, not Woodstock, and just started my own studio. I was too busy finding clients and shooting jobs. No time for music festivals.

"Just for your interest..." Peter how many of your commercial clients have ever queried you on your choice of color space? While I've had a few clients ask me what brand/model camera I prefer I've never had a single client voice any concern what so ever about the color space I use... albeit back in the day I recall a few who asked me which photographic film I preferred.

btw, as for your post on Woodstock NY? Were you in attendance on Aug 15, 1969 – Aug 18, 1969?
I was and it became a pivotal moment in my life... for the first time I realized that my thoughts and concerns were indeed mirrored by a huge magnitude of like minded individuals.

Somehow I don't find Color Space to be high on my priority list... Same as what key I tune my guitar to... so easily changed a.k.a. dynamically allocated as my situation predicates...

As for acoustic classical guitars, I have found both Yamaha and Cordoba acoustic guitars are an excellent cost effective option. Especially Cordoba classical guitars... These fine instruments are built in the Spanish tradition, and they can add resonance and presence to the music of any genre. Best yet there are competitively priced for the fine quality of materials and workmanship they bring to the table.

Precious moments with my acoustic classical guitar bring far more joy to my world than any of my digital cameras, albeit the cameras pay the bills... enough said

Wishing you much joy and happiness on your continuing journey in the photographic arts Peter...

This sRGB and RGB got blown out of proportion !
I inquired about a locked SD card and how to unlock it.

The first responder noticed in my screen capture the image details of jpg and RGB and everybody jumped on board the color, but not the locking mechanism.

When l was a pro shooting for advertising agencies, all NYC photographers used Adobe RGB 1998 TIFF when send digital files to their client on Madison Ave.

Since retiring, l shoot with an All-in-One Leica (no more full size Nikons or Hasselblads) and out of habit set the RGB (bigger color space).
For my color prints it works ! On the internet they look good as well.

AMEN !

Longevity also depends on how much you have used the cards.
Consider buying new cards, shooting, then dupping images to an external H.D., then saving the original cards for posterity.
