Pause for a moment and look back along the footsteps of your journey. Do you see a path climbing the steady incline toward skill and knowledge or just a trail of discarded cameras?

NONE discarded.

Photography and golf are identical.
You need professional instruction to master the basics.
You need to practice to get great results.
When you fail to achieve your goals- - you go out and buy new equipment for instant success!!

GAS?

GAS (n) see also Gear Acquisition Syndrome: The ability to rationalize the purchase of something that one does not really need but cannot live without. GAS seems to be a widespread phenomenon which has not been easily reproduced in the laboratory or in focus groups, especially when spouses are present. In the wild it is especially noticed in the area of photography. It is believed that it originated as the byproduct of contact with silver nitrate, and has survived even to the day of digital cameras. Most researchers do not hold out much hope for a cure in the foreseeable future.

You've reached the final plateau, my child!

You're exactly right! If all you want to do is take pictures, you could still be using that camera someone gave you in 1960. If you enjoy photography, then you are allowed to accumulate as much gear as you like, whether you use it or not. The whole idea is to enjoy yourself, whatever it takes. I like ukuleles, and I have a lot of them. Do I play each one every day? No, but I like having the variety.

My wife's the one that told me to write the post!

Every successful photographer is driven by an inner voice telling them everyone else has a better camera.

yeah, they have medication for that. I would have thought that the 'inner voice' of the 'successful photographer' would have said "you're fine; doesn't matter what anyone else has."

Will you even recognize the person you were before you upgraded?

if you don't recognize yourself you've got greater problems than photography can solve.

If you don't have a willingness to spend time in learning and practice, there's always the option of buying new equipment.

That option exists either way. That’s the beauty of it.

I’ve come to the conclusion that buying photography gear and using it are separate hobbies.

I have a Z6, Z7, D500 and D850. I’m satisfied with all of them, although I find myself grabbing the Z7 more frequently than the D850. Love the S glass for the Z cameras. As soon as I mortgage my house I’m gonna order the new 70-200mm. 😂

If your pictures are not good enough, you're using the wrong brand.

Or don’t know how to use the gear.
