There is a website dedicated to "old" Kodak film canisters: https://www.photo.net/forums/topic/454739-kodak-35mm-film-canisters-history/ .... Even if just for sentimental reasons....and, btw and for curiosity's sake, how many people just use film these days?

Back in the "old days" when we shot iron sights, I used these with a small hole in the cap, added carbide and a few drops of water and used the acetylene to blacken my sights.

I just bought a new Nikon Zf. To start with its Set-up process, I went to YouTube and followed one of the vlogger’s instructions on how to set-up the camera. After some twicking and adjustments, I tried taking several pictures on Aperture mode. But when I tried to view the pictures, what appears on the View screen are the Metering modes like Matrix, Center Weighted, Spot, etc. and nothing else. No pictures! Did I make a boo-boo on the set-up and adjustments?

Is there any chance that set up is covered in the manual?

The measurement of Earth's average temperature is not limited to just the United States. It is monitored at various stations around the world and using other technologies such as satellites and buoys placed in strategic places in our oceans. So even if the report that you cite is accurate, (I have my doubts), it does not negate the fact that the earth's temperature is rising at a rate that is dangerous to ourselves and the rest of the biosphere.

I am certain that we can measure temperatures. What no one has quantified is what we mere humans can do about it and at what cost. That is the question that politicians studiously avoid. Bullying people into electric cars without the proper infrastructure is one example. And let's not forget that Lithium batteries are under control of countries who are less friendly to the USA. Pushing restaurants to use electric cooking methods when natural gas is plentiful and much less polluting than alternatives is another. The point is what human efforts can actually influence global temperatures? I don't know and neither does anyone else.

I recently watched a short report that a gov't agency (?EPA?) reporting on climate temperature changes had placed 85% of their thermometers improperly; e.g., on roofs, parking lots, sidewalks, near A/C exhaust outlets, etc. all in city environments. Very few were placed in rural area or in non- city environments. I guess that's one way to manufacture a crisis. What say you, John Kerry?

Do you use a protective filter on your lens(es)?

Lets see how many people loose their marbles on this one.....

Link in next post.....

I will offer a reply to this conversation. I learned only last evening a benefit. I took a cold camera into a swimming meet and suffered having my lens fog up. It was only very slowly recovering, but when I took the "protective filter" off, the front lens element was clear and stayed that way. Unexpected to me but glad it happened.

I unfortunately last year, I backed into a car that was backing out of a parking space. I turned all the information in to my insurance company. No damage to the other vehicle, my car only. Yes, I am 83 years old, this is my first accident in all the years from 16 on—no tickets in at least 15 years no DUI or any infractions. My insurance's last 6-month renewal was approximately $900. This 6-month renewal is increased by over 300 percent. to $3000 for 6 months. If you are living in California and have a fender bender look out!
It's all about the cost to the dealer and incentives to the sales force (move the metal!). The sales manager is trying to get rid of slow moving inventory at the highest markup he or she can get away with. End of the month mfr. incentives also motivate the sales manager. Usually the sales people are paid very little or not at all so the cost to the dealer is low and the strife between sales people can be brutal. I just control the conversation and focus on what I want to know.

I'm not disparaging my wonderful wife but she always objects when I change a device to European time, i.e., 24 hour time. I explain it isn't just military, it's also around the world and it is unambiguous.

My time is more valuable. Dropping $23.99 for FRV is a better use of my time to cull exclusively from my RAW-only images.

Thank you,
I'll look at it.
Try the <Delete> key?

I shoot RAW and use a modestly priced FastRawViewer tinto your preferred editor too, as well as rotation

One reason I shoot RAW and jpeg is that I can review the photos easily in jpeg and delete both versions in one pass.

I can remember the "good old days" when I was able to buy a shop manual for every new car I bought. Yes I read it.

Time frame?

It varies, but when I look at old VHS tapes, the degradation seems to begin within the first 10-20 years. I haven't had a computer that reads 5-1/4 floppies so I can't guess. I know the old "ZIP" drives were showing degradation after 20 years.
