I unfortunately last year, I backed into a car that was backing out of a parking space. I turned all the information in to my insurance company. No damage to the other vehicle, my car only. Yes, I am 83 years old, this is my first accident in all the years from 16 on—no tickets in at least 15 years no DUI or any infractions. My insurance's last 6-month renewal was approximately $900. This 6-month renewal is increased by over 300 percent. to $3000 for 6 months. If you are living in California and have a fender bender look out!

It would have been cheaper over all, to pay for the repair out of pocket. That increase will last a long time.

You dont say how much was the repair to the insurance co , next time pay up .Also , when needed , and you have a fender bender , specify that you want used parts to be used only , on newer cars this save a lot of time and money . A good used fender is as good or better then a new one , it has all factory paint treatment .

Sounds like it's time to shop around for a new insurance company.

We have friends who had hail damage on both their cars several months ago. They paid for the repairs themselves after hearing similar stories.

I have USAA and currently my Insurance is 752 and change a month for the first quarter for auto and home owners insurance. Yes it is high but will go down as the year progresses. I get excellent service from them, they don't quibble over paying a claim like some insurance companies do. They will pay the repair shop before the car is scheduled in based on the estimate and if you require a rental car they will already have that set up. I am picking my car up this morning from the repair shop and dropping my rental with them, basically one stop shopping.

The reason my car was being repaired was that on the second of January my wife discovered damage to the right rear corner just above the bumper. The insurance classified the damage as hit and run since we didn't know where or when it happen. It was scheduled in this past Tuesday and promised by Friday.

A guy ran a stoplight and did 10,000 damage to my Nissan Titan. He came out apologizing numerous time. Then he told the city cop he thought the light was green. The city police wouldn't assign blame. Unfortunately no car stopped as witnesses. Now my insurance in up $500.00. I have been told that the Highway Patrol will if at all possible assigh blame. I'm thinking I should have requested to go straight to a magistrate to plea my case.

Increasingly, I feel like I don't want to own anything that I can't afford to self insure. Yes, we need liability coverage and health insurance, but the cost of insuring "stuff" is completely out of control. I prefer used cars that I can afford to replace. (no collision, uninsured motorist, or comp insurance).

If we're afraid to make a claim, why carry the coverage?

It will surely get much worse. Insurance companies, like all companies, are in business to create a profit to provide for their shareholders. With the number of auto thefts and uninsured drivers, insurance companies have no choice but to raise rates.

IF...they raise rates too high for the "non-involved" customers, they are likely to leave for a cheaper rate. Thus, they raise the rates of those who have a claim. Of course, they complain and look elsewhere yet the non-involved customers will most likely stay.

Does anyone think that all of the millions who are entering the country will have proper ownership of the autos they drive as well as insurance coverage to protect the property, limb, and life of those they have an incident with?
