I have USAA and currently my Insurance is 752 and change a month for the first quarter for auto and home owners insurance. Yes it is high but will go down as the year progresses. I get excellent service from them, they don't quibble over paying a claim like some insurance companies do. They will pay the repair shop before the car is scheduled in based on the estimate and if you require a rental car they will already have that set up. I am picking my car up this morning from the repair shop and dropping my rental with them, basically one stop shopping.

The reason my car was being repaired was that on the second of January my wife discovered damage to the right rear corner just above the bumper. The insurance classified the damage as hit and run since we didn't know where or when it happen. It was scheduled in this past Tuesday and promised by Friday.

From what I understand, USAA is about as good as you can get. Thank you for your service

I didn't suggest that. My state only requires that I carry liability. I self insure for the cars, not for liability. Uninsured motorist is not required and is redundant here. Liability covers my passengers for all hazards. I save about half by taking on the minimal risk for the value of my cars. I've saved tens of thousands over the years with this approach. My risk is minimal.

From my post which you quoted:
"Yes, we need liability coverage and health insurance, but the cost of insuring "stuff" is completely out of control. I prefer used cars that I can afford to replace....(no collision, uninsured motorist, or comp insurance)

Sorry about not being clearer. I wasn't countering your statement, but just adding another perspective. You were clear about having liability. I also self-insured at times, but in my case medical for my family. We were all young and healthy. I saved enough in premiums to pay for one new child and one broken leg or similar per year and still break even. Luckily we had neither so I ended up saving 20K over 4 years. That was before medical costs went crazy. Today, that would barely cover one ER visit. I agree, everyone needs liability coverage at home or on the road.

Yes, and I have not left them. After the way GEICO did me, better the devil you know than the next one waiting around the corner. There no need to thank me for doing my obligation, but I appreciate that. I would gladly do it again.

I had a severe storm that damaged and blew off shingles on the roof of my home so I filed a claim.
Farmers came out and appraised the roof and ok'd a replacement (my first claim ever)
I just got my home owners policy and it went up $250 a month due to that claim !
wtf........I pay for decades with no claim and I make my first one and they raise my policy
What a SCAM
It's like going to see the doctor with my health insurance and then getting a increase because I went to the doctor !

Sounds like it's time to shop around for a new insurance company.

There isn't little chance of getting anything any cheaper as they are all in cahoots

Just bend over and take your medicine from big business. There is a reason they pay the lobbyists in D.C. the big bucks? Where else you gonna go?

I'm 78 and have not had an insurance claim is 30 years. That was a deer who ran out in front of me on a 65 MPH highway and too close to stop or avoid. My insurance was under $500.00 for 6 Months in Va. but move here to Texas and it went to $900.00 and then to over a grand. I finally found a company to insure me for 20% higher than Va. Lots of hard work to get that for a driver who had not had an accident since 1962. I was at fault in my mothers 1963 Buick Le Sabre in November of that year, 1962. All those years with no accidents and no claims. What one agent told me was that the DUI rate here is very high and so everybody's rate goes way up. Just keep the govt. out of it or it will really go thru the roof.

The govt is partly responsible for millions of new uninsured motorists. (Undocumented drivers rarely purchase auto insurance). Also, car thieves have reacted to the value of used cars since governments shut down supply chains during the pandemic. Someone has to pay insurance companies for any claims related to these two factors.
