My dad when I was about 14 years old had a darkroom and I managed to save these.
I'm 85 now. I wonder if there is any value to them.

There is a website dedicated to "old" Kodak film canisters: https://www.photo.net/forums/topic/454739-kodak-35mm-film-canisters-history/ .... Even if just for sentimental reasons....and, btw and for curiosity's sake, how many people just use film these days?

The steel can is worth a few sheckels but the aluminum one very little.

For me, they have as much value as my small pill bottles, which I use to store small items. However, the pill bottles get refreshed monthly at my age. So the thread title really applies more to me than the canisters.

PS: when I was 14 I had the darkroom. My father had no interest in photography. (But I'm only 84 now).

I have seen cardboard boxes full of the aluminum cans those particular ones were priced as 75ยข or $1 each (I forget which). They didn't have the Kodak name on them though.

Eventually the metal cans were replaced by plastic.

When they went to plastic Kodak made all theirs black but some of the other film company's made their's clear which was nice when you wanted to know what film was inside. I would often tape the label from the box to the can to keep them sorted in my camera bag. Then, of course, there was German customs. You couldn't have your film in bricks. All rolls out of boxes and out of cans. Before going overseas I would put a rubber band around each roll to keep things neat and to keep the film leader from sticking out. Seeing those cans brought back lots of memories. I still have two. One with tiny little nails in it and the other with a few rattlesnake rattles in it.

Dunno, but it is a beautifully minimalist shot

The plastic ones really depend on how much weed is in them.

This made me laugh. It made me think of all the years where the first thing you did when opening one of the plastic ones was to smell it.

Who woulda thunk metal film canisters were replaced by plastic?
