This is a hypothetical challenge for all the financial wizards on UHH. It has to do with the financial situation of a young man having just graduated from college and started his first job.

His current annual financial posture is below. Note that parentheses indicate negative numbers.

($ 58,000) Expenses - including apt. rent, car payments, utilities like gas, water, electricity, cell phone, internet, Netflix, cable TV, food, entertainment, insurance, medical, etc.
($310,000) College Loan Debt. - yes it was an expensive college
($342,000) TOTAL SHORTFALL from above numbers

If you were his financial advisor, how would you have this young man fix his financial house? Note that filing for bankruptcy is not an option, as College Loan Debt cannot be wiped by bankruptcy. Note that there is an underlying theme or a trick to this financial challenge that will be revealed when enough UHHers have had a chance to respond.

Here's a weird one. I wanted to use my Acer laptop to print, so I connected the Epson ET-2760. The computer recognized it and said it was ready to go. CTRL-P, and the printer is not listed. When I click on Printers in the Print box, it shows the Epson as "Ready." I shut down, restarted, removed, etc. Same result. Then I connected the Epson 970 - same thing. The printer is "Ready," but it doesn't show up where I choose what printer to use.

Looking in Device Manager, there isn't even a listing for "Imaging Devices."

I wanted to print with the Acer because my current Dell desktop doesn't print, either. I was able to print a PDF with my 2012 MBP, so the printers are okay.

Yes, this is weird. Any and all suggestions accepted. : )

There is no "Imaging Devices" or "Printers and Scanners" listed in Device Manager.

As I was typing this, I thought I'd try to print again. It said there was a problem, and the Epson Connection Checker would look into it. I had tried that before, and the checker froze indefinitely. Today, it said it found the problem and fixed it. Then it printed. Nothing changed between yesterday and today, but the printer prints. No one can tell me that these things aren't just having fun with us.

I've often wondered about this. Maybe one of you has an answer. People who use a Mac tend to store data on external drives because Apple doesn't make computers with large capacity internal drives. Why don't they?

For $1,699, you get an iMac 24 with 512GB. For $2,200, you get 2TB. Digital storage is cheap and small, so Apple could easily offer much greater storage as standard.

Unfortunately, Dell seems to be following Apple's lead. Their base XPS comes with 512GB for $960. In the past, I've bought a Dell with little storage and added my own larger C and then added a D drive. If you buy a Dell now, you must make sure you can add more drives. The one I'm using now will not accept an optical drive.

If the system is broken, it's not going to master that you paid. We have our electricity go out occasionally, and I pay every month.

Right now, ALL SYSTEMS OPERATIONAL.
