Drawbacks to The Cloud

I tried to get onto DropBox today -

Investigating - Dropbox is not working for some users. We’re working to fix the problem as quickly as we can. We’ll share another update shortly.

MAJOR reason why I want all _my_ stuff (programs and pictures) to be on _my_ machines. Along with the old adage, "Internet security is an oxymoron."

The cloud is incomparable for archive and disaster recovery and (sometimes) sharing, but NOT for primary storage or a substitute for a local backup. Now in terms of free file storage and sharing, you get what you pay for

I use drop box almost everyday. When you pay for it you don't get these notices. the reason why?MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. It's a disgrace to say it but it's the truth. If I didn't use it for my business I would be getting the same messages.

If the system is broken, it's not going to master that you paid. We have our electricity go out occasionally, and I pay every month.

Right now, ALL SYSTEMS OPERATIONAL.

Right. They should think more about the names they choose. There is nothing permanent about a cloud, yet people are expected to store their valuable files in a cloud.

I back everything important; financials, documents, & photos to 5 external drives and Microsoft OneDrive. I feel pretty secure. The good thing about OneDrive is that I can access everything from both NY and FL or anywhere. In FL, I take a couple of the 1 TB drives as well.

I tried to use OneDrive today, and it kept putting things into a Vault, rather than into the target folder. Then I had to keep getting an email with a code to continue. What's the deal with the Vault - that can't be deleted?

Yes, I used that, and DropBox came back to life. Google allows much more storage, though.
