Adobe LR,PS, et.al. users: FYI

Adobe’s product security response machine revved into high gear this week with the release of multiple patches for gaping security holes in widely deployed software products.

According to the San Jose, Calif. software maker, this month’s batch of patches address a swathe of potentially dangerous vulnerabilities in Adobe Acrobat and Reader, Adobe Photoshop, and the ever-present Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop Application.

The most serious of the vulnerabilities could allow attackers to take complete control of a Windows or macOS machine with minimal user action. In some cases, malicious exploits can be triggered remotely to hijack unpatched machines, Adobe warned.

Windows and MacOS users and network administrators are encouraged to prioritize the Adobe Acrobat and Reader update, a patch that provides cover for at least five memory corruption vulnerabilities that expose users to remote code execution attacks.

“These updates address multiple critical vulnerabilities. Successful exploitation could lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user,” Adobe said.

The company issued a separate bulletin to document a pair of potentially dangerous buffer overflow flaws in Adobe Photoshop that expose both Windows and macOS users to code execution attacks.

The Adobe Patch Tuesday rollout for June also covers security problems in Adobe Connect, Adobe Experience Manager, and Adobe Robohelp Server.

I have three questions regarding the showing and selling of photos.
I had two photos accepted into a juried art show. One sold and the other has won an award.
1. Someone else has asked about the one sold. Can I reprint it and sell it again?
2. Can I enter either in another show?
3. If I enter either or both in another show can I change the names and prices of the photos or should I keep everything the same?
Thanks for any advice you might have. I’m fairly new to this world and don’t want to make a huge gaffe.

Unless you sold the ©, even if it is unregistered it is still yours. But if you want to protect and potentially enforce your ©, you should register it. See: www.copyright.gov. © is a federal law, administered by the © office, a department of the Library of Congress and enforced in federal courts.

The new M-1 powered Macs are certainly faster and less RAM hungry* than previous generations, but Louis Rossman pointed out a serious flaw in the new machines: the SSD is soldered to the MB. As SSD's are wear parts that will malfunction or die after a year or two, especially because the machines use the *SSD as a RAM disk, you could be owning a brick when the SSD dies. If Apple changes its practice between now and the M-2 and implements a pluggable SSD, preferably user fixable it would be worth the wait.

Actually, the Post Office doesn't receive tax proceeds after Congress in its august wisdom spun it off mandating that it be self sufficient and requiring that it fund its retirement pension fund 50 years in advance.
Then came Louis DeJoy.

It’s flickering with lines on left and bottom of the screen. It’s barely readable. It’s time to buy a new computer anyway, but Apple just came out with the M1 chip and a new line of computers. Unfortunately they do not offer a 16 ~ 17 inch MacBook like the one I had and want to replace. I read that a bigger MacBook may be coming in March. I just managed to back up my HDs. I’m using my iPhone to post this message. I’m planing on holding off until the new bigger MacBook is available. This means I’ll be going cold turkey for a while!

Apple's current MBPro has a 16" screen, an i9 CPU, etc. It's ~$2400 to $2800. <https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro/16-inch>

A cheaper alternative is to try an external monitor. Assuming you have the 17" MBPro Core2Duo, it has a 'Dual-link DVI' port through which, using an adapter can drive an external monitor. It will take a bit of a search, perhaps even the used market as monitors with DVI ports are rare, having been replaced with HDMI ports (slightly inferior IMO). There are adapters to HDMI, but I'd go for a monitor with a DVI port if you can find one.

Consider repair. Try Louis Rossman in NYC (he's a frequent poster on youtube). The 17" MBPro is 16 years old now, so parts may no longer be available, but if you like your machine, it would be worth a phone call or email.

The Washington Post today reports that Bob Dylan, 79, has sold his catalogue of songs to Universal Music Group [“UMG”] for ‘nine-figures.’ Speculation on how much ‘nine-figures’ is range from Four-hundred-million to just shy of a billion dollars.
Others speculate on have UMG intends to recover their investment by licensing Dylan’s songs for commercial use. They range from:
It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) -- Band-Aid
Song To Woody -- Trojan condoms
Ballad of a Thin Man -- Weight Watchers
Idiot Wind -- Gas-X (with Rudy Giuliani as company pitchman)

Hoggers are invited to contribute.

Yup. Apple has become monopolistic in their practices.
I've had Macs since 1984 and have been DYIing RAM, HDD's & SSD's and cables up until 2015 when Apple started soldering RAM to the MB.
Check out Louis Rossman's posts and wiki on youtube. He runs a Apple repair biz in NYC, and is highly critical of Apple's anti right-to-repair stance and lately has lamented that he will no longer be able to repair because of Apple's repair policies and their embargo on chip replacements.
If you're looking toward the future, start learning Linux that will run on your current machine – there's even a GUI that looks like OSX and/or many other flavors to choose from.
When your Mac dies, switch to a Intel PC sans Windows. You may lose Mac only apps, but there are alternatives you can run either via Virtual Box or from the PC or Linux world.
I have a 2012 MBPro maxed out. When it dies, I'm going to Linux and bye-bye to Apple unless they change their policies on DYIers.

From the Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/12/04/jupiter-saturn-double-planet/

This month for you astronomy shooters, "…the once-in-a-lifetime sight is the product of an astronomical event known as a “conjunction,” in which two objects line up with each other in the sky. When it involves Jupiter and Saturn catching up to each other, it’s sometimes called a “great conjunction.”
"…Since the summer, Jupiter and Saturn have been getting closer to one another, often visible at dusk, low in the western sky. Right around the solstice, they may appear as one overlapping body above the horizon.

This phenomenon last occurred in 1623. "Luckily, Earth will not need to await another eight centuries to view another “double planet.” Given the tilts of each orbit, the next conjunction will be visible in 2080, according to projections from Rice University astronomer Patrick Hartigan."

But for many, this year will mark their first and only opportunity to get a glimpse of the two planets seemingly merging in the sky. Alan Duffy, the lead scientist at the Royal Institution of Australia, recommends that stargazers hoping to get a clear view of both Jupiter and Saturn might want to look west before then."
