Well, if you wouldn't text back to your dog, maybe you shouldn't have a dog!

If there is a windows program you Must run on a Mac, Parallels will allow you to run it just as thought it was a PC. I must admit, the one thing I miss on a PC that you can't get on a Mac is VIRUS. All right, maybe I don't miss viruses, actually I don't miss PCs either. One trip to the Apple store will convince you!

No question in my opinion, get a iMac, you'll never look back! The iMac comes with iPhoto, which should serve you well to begin with and I'd suggest Aperture as you advance. Is Apple more expensive, maybe, but when you price out what you get with a PC or a Mac, the differance in cost deminishes. Have you ever had a problem with the Dell and taken it back to the Dell Store, you can go to the Apple store and they listen to you and work with you! Most important, you get what you pay for, buy cheap, you've got cheap!

The Truth,
In actuality, not everyone at UHH hate president Obama, in fact I would venture in fact it's a very small but virulent minority that are quite vocal. The fact you're from a "foreign" country really should have no bearing in your observations. We sometime learn from another's viewpoint that differs from our own, so thanks for your input, simple as that.

Sorry to disagree with you but my guess is most skilled pro and semi pro photographers shoot primarily in RAW. The benefit of RAW quickly outweigh the little extra work necessary for the end result.

The only way you could have used all of the battery in that few number of photos is if you viewed each photo after each shot, zoomed in on subjects, checking focus, white balance and doing some in camera editing between each shot. I've never had a Nikon battery go south in that short amount of photos, and auto focus and VR are pretty much a part of photography in today's world. How did the battery perform after a recharge?

There are at least 4 separate program modes you can set up on the D700 and one is in fact point & shoot, great for a kids party but the settings available for each mode are almost endless and allow you to shoot just about any situation with confidence. Shooting in a program mode doesn't relegate the D700 to an expensive point and shoot category, it simply allows photography to be more enjoyable.

Let me be the first and at this point, the only person to admit I use Program mode 99.9% of the time on my Nikon D700. I didn't start out with a D700, I began with a Yashica 124 twin lens reflex using a hand held meter then onto a Minolta SRT102, a Nikon 8008, a Nikon D70 and finally the D700.
On the earlier cameras, very time I tried to out guess the camera with manual settings, the camera won, hands down. I came to the realization, especially with the D700, I have in my hands a very powerful, sophisticated, highly programed camera with literally hundreds of thousands of settings for just about any situation this camera is likely to encounter and I'm going to ignore this ability I've paid thousands of dollars for and try and out think it. Really? No, this is what the camera can do and I let it do what it was designed to do, allow me to shoot pictures that I enjoy!

Larrypaine,
If you haven't figured it out yet, the vast responders to this site are in fact card carrying members of the extreme far right of the John Birch Society who vilify anyone who responds to any of their pro Christian white far right rants with anything even remotely negative. They don't post for discussion, only validation of their viewpoints. You must not question anything they post or suffer their verbal wrath, oh no, not that!!! You're not alone and hopefully not actually outnumbered.

If you're looking at buying one or the other for photo storage and editing, the Mac is the hands down winner. Have you ever gone to the Dell store? Exactly! When you call Apple you speak with someone in the US who knows Apple and if he/she doesn't how to solve your problem, will get you someone who does. I've dealt with both Dell and Apple support and Dell is a joke!

So, let's put you in charge and the question is what do you do? You're no longer a Monday morning quarterback, you're the person in charge. The entire world is watching, your first move?

Your using a Mac, so you also have access to iPhoto, which handles raw seamlessly. Probably not as powerful as Lightroom but oh so easy!
