Bottomline, there can be a case made for phones.

That case imo is that they are better than nothing and that is about it.
Again today I was out, photo op arose, had to use my phone and got pics good enough to put on Facebook for friends. Not much else that can be done with them.

I totally agree with you. DSLRs in my opinion are equal or Superior! Especially in Still photography. I don't do video, no interested in cinematography. Plus can't stand Evf's, prefer the live view. Thanks

They get angry at us happy people. Long live the DSLR! All our D lenses work great too!

You don’t need much to edit or organize photos. I’m using Nikon’s free software for RAW edits and organization. A number of editing programs can all perform very similar tasks.

Adobe’s subscription model is the typical modern cash grab and I’ve never liked Lightroom. If I was in your position, I’d look at some of the non Adobe programs mentioned. Adobe’s new business model will eat into your pockets for years to come.

Panasonic has been making mirrorless cameras since 2009, Olympus and Sony since 2009, Nikon since 2011 and Canon and Fuji since 2012.

And how many years without EVF faults and failures?
How reliable have sensor shields been?
I’ll just wait it out thanks.

Don't know if it was mentioned in this thread but was it even clear to Alec Baldwin it was a real gun and not a prop gun?

Wow, you’ll grasp at any straw to justify your animus against mirrorless cameras. I guess we’ll have to wait and see but mechanical shutters in cameras last a pretty long time the Z9’s sensor shield is more robust than a mechanical shutter. As for EVF’s, camera manufacturers have been making them for years without any indication without any widespread problems.

Geez you mirrorless guys are so defensive.

We know all about SLR/DSLR reliability. One of the factors of not jumping on the mirrorless bandwagon for me is certainly reliability. There is no such thing as, "been making them for years" unless it's identical to what was done in the past.
I'll wait and see and where you got information the shield is more robust than a mechanical shutter I have no idea.

Mine's 20 years old and keeping it forever as it'll slowly become a collectors car but I'll never sell it. It's got 120,000 miles on it and I'll keep driving it as it was bought to be driven.

The Nikon Z9 with no mechanical shutter has a sensor cover that closes when you change a lens or power off.

Wonder if it'll be the first thing that breaks and if it can be fixed. Be interested to also see how the EVF's go long term.

“Professional Mode” ?!?!? Isn’t that joke getting stale yet ? Or mebbe Hogsters now believe it’s really there ?!?

“Professional Mode” is the “left handed monkey wrench” of the mode dial.

Wasn't even attempting to make a joke. Everyone calls it professional mode as much as anything else. I simply consider it one of the normal terms and use it freely.

I must be the only one who rarely watches YouTube videos or spends time viewing other photographers work. It's only in passing I look at something if shown or mentioned generally.

There are times for A,S and M. Can't say I've ever used professional mode but there are plus points to that one as well. Each to their own. There are some things in photography where one technique is best but not in the case of this thread topic.

Not this one. I got a Canon camera I can sell you if you like? I'd almost give it to you for free but I'm greedy!

Twice in my life I was in a position to go with either a Canon or Nikon system. Twice I chose a Nikon system and never regretted it. I bought one Canon camera once in my life and I regretted it.

The Nikon D3x... Yes that epic $7K wonder

D3x is my digital F5 equivalent.
D200 is my digital F90x equivalent.

I find all 4 of these cameras absolutely brilliant and all 4 will still get use.
