Isn't it a phone?

And a map and GPS ...so much more. I feel naked without it.

I'm just not phone-y! Don't own one, won't carry one. I'd rather miss any photo I can imagine than carry a phone.

An engineer friend of mine in the mid 70s told me that they're working on TVs that you'll be able to hang on the wall...
Took a bit longer than I expected.

“Luddites Forever” charter member?

Me too!

So I carry a waterproof GPS camera in the car and/or in pocket. Only 8Mp, and no RAW, but serves its purpose . . .

turn off the phone and learn to use the camera. They are great. And since your phone is shut off, you can take your time composing your shot. And you can send the photo to your computer without using the phone. Many advantages, not too many downsides.

Yes...and a wise person when leaving home and entering this crazy world carries a phone.

No, it is a Sony HX99 for me, it shoots RAW, my phone does not, I can do many things with those images in Photoshop, my phone not so much.
My Sony has a pop up flash for dragging the shutter and auto fill flash, my phone, not so much.
My Sony has a 24-750 mm lens, my phone cannot zoom out that far.
I can fit my phone in my pocket, I can fit my Sony in my pocket.
I cannot make a call with my Sony, I can with my phone.

And you my friend are a awesome dude. Most everyone in the world has caved on their principles or beliefs and justified it in many ways. I see what has happened to the world since everyone has a phone and most post on social media daily if not hourly. Personally. My contractors used to be able to give me a complete materials list. Very very seldom needing extra material. Now I get several calls a day with the same contractors needing this and that. Just a small example of the phone on the hip allowing people to not be nearly as organized. It also seems social media has allowed all the fringe people to get in touch with each other and become large groups. Is a phone nessary? No! Have they saved lives yes but in the big picture we are all going to die anyway. Have they destroyed organization and thought for many? Have they been used to steal money? All I'm saying is who looks at the downsides of the phone? Hardly no one. I believe Quixdraw is one who sees the whole picture. He has made a decision and stuck to it. Commendable in today's society. Good rant huh? Lol

Maitani when he said that he meant the Olympus XA.

Wow, I guess an Apple Watch isn’t on a lot of Xmas lists this year, either….
