Recently visited Goose Island again.
Roseate Spoonbill shot through the reeds at the limit for my 150-500mm Tamron, so I needed to denoise and remove a bit of blur. Egrets were a bit closer in.
Pelicans are "sitting ducks" when fishers are filleting...
Sony A7C, Tamron 150-500mm. ISO 640. Shutter speeds varying - available on EXIF.
Post processing using ON1 Photo Raw 2023. Denoise AI and Tack sharp used at up to 30%.
Happy New Year in health and happiness to all of you. - Keep on shooting and posting!
C and C welcome - I am continuing my voyage with birds, but BIF so far are being elusive.

Great shots! There are a couple at Goose Island, but not close enough for me to get the level of detail that you show here... Have a happy and healthy New Year, Chief!

I have a HDMI port on my current laptop. However the colors are not as bright on my Sony 43" hd tv.

I have a Gigabyte A5-X1 15.6" laptop. RTX3070i graphics card, Ryzen 9 processor and good LCD screen. 2 SSDs onboard. HDMI and DP ports. USB-c and standard USB ports.
When not using as a portable, I plug it into my 27" Samsung monitor.
Both the monitor and the laptop screen are calibrated regularly (datacolor SpyderX) and when at home, my 42-inch 4k TV (also calibrated) is used for editing.
The only complaint that I have is that the fans on the GPU are a bit noisy, but I can live with that.
I also have an older laptop with a GX1060GPU. This card is also calibrated with the monitor.

Whether you decide to go with a laptop or a desktop, the most important thing, IMHO, is that the processor and graphics card are adequate for the job. Generally more memory is a good thing and SSDs will help with getting work done faster (time to load and export + the use of the SSD as a virtual memory).

Depending on the software that you use for post processing, you may or may not need more GPU memory. As software manufacturers move more to AI, you may find that the GPU memory is not being used as much as it was in the past, since the main processor is used for most AI functions.

And to think that I drove 2500 miles south to get out of it... Fail. Scratching my head on Padre Island, where they have shut the water off in the washrooms or the RV park...
No snow, just cold and windy... tsk, tsk...

Thanks. This upgrade seems to have solved lower-contrast eye-tracking issues...
Best wishes to you and yours for the holiday season.

Images look great…. were you having trouble before the upgrade to your lenses? Jus’ curious how that works!

I found that the eye-tracking was a bit sluggish under some lighting conditions. The upgrade seems to have fixed that on both lenses...

Thank you. Do you have a sense of loss about that missing 75mm-to-150mm segment? And is the 500mm range enough? Do you wish for a 600?

So far, I am not finding that to be a major problem. I have a 70-300 FX Nikon lens, but I do not carry it with me very often these days. On the D5500, it was always with me, but since I am using "dumb" adapters, I only carry it when I feel that I might really need it.
When my finances allow, I shall probably be looking for an f2.8 lens to fill the gap - likely a 75-200mm.
For bird photography, no lens is ever long enough, however, I am happy with the 500mm - the price of the Tamrons makes sense and the quality is more than adequate for my needs.

Tamron recently updated the firmware for several lenses. I have the 28-75mm and 150-500mm units which are part of the group of lenses with the firmware updates, so I took the plunge.
From my preliminary shots with the updates, I can confirm that the subject tracking has been improved on the Sony E-mount versions of these lenses. It is a noticeable improvement, so if you own this group of lenses, I would recommend that you carry out the upgrade.
Shots taken today in overcast conditions, Mustang Island State Park.
Enjoy the shorebirds - the birds I took with the 28-75mm were quite small in the frame, so I did not include those - trust me, the tracking was excellent.
Most of these are only about 1/6th of the frame, so equivalent to a 4 MP sensor...
Sony A7c Tamron 150-500mm and Tamron 28-75mm. Mostly around f8 - f11.
PP using ON1 RAW 2023 with a small amount of noise reduction and sharpening using ON1 Nonoise AI and ON1 Tac-sharp.
