Your lens should work just fine. The 70-200 2.8 is a faster lens and what I use to take portraits of my 5 kids and 3 grandkids. Bounce a flash off the wall or ceiling and you are good to go.

I think it is more impressive if you crop out the second player. 1) it's about the catch and not the chase. 2) the second player takes my eye away from the catch. 3) second player seems to be a distraction.
