Now a days a bumper sticker like than might be considered a THREAT. The world is getting weirder by the day .....

I seen a bumper sticker on a truck one time that stated " you touch'a my truck'a, I break'a you face!". Maybe you should have a T shirt printed with the same statement about your camera.
Might help, who knows for sure, OY!

RAW gives you more latitude when you need to make corrections.

Hypothetical question? If I have 2 (the same) fairly sharp, well exposed photos, that don't need a lot of clean up, one being raw, the other a jpeg, would I be able to tell the difference. I guess what I'm asking is on the proper exposed photo, can you make the raw that much better looking compared to the jpeg.

Thanks in advance

I use a 4gb and 8gb CF card with my Nikon D200. They are fast and I have never bent a pin on the camera or reader. They card larger and not so easy to lose.

Not that I had ever considered the D800, but the CF card would have me looking elsewhere.

I will suggest installing a good car alarm.

I do not know about your area but in many places people have got so use to hearing alarms on cars they are completely oblivious and ignore the alarm and thieves know this. According to a Police Officer I spoke with alarms will not stop most professional thieves.
Again I believe the best thing is to keep your camera in your possession.

Best protection is Smith and Wesson.

If you shoot or severely injury a thief you may save your gear and end up doing time with the thief suing you. Most states, with Texas being an exception, do not allow deadly force to protect property. The law now a days seems to find a way to make the thief the victim and the victim the bad guy. I personally keep my camera/lens and bag with me. I NEVER leave it unattended. A thief can not steal what is not there.

Sometimes these "REFURBISHED" lens are simply returns. Since they can not legally sell it as a new lens they rename name it "REFURBISHED". This is quite common now a days. So long as you have a warranty you should be just fine. I do agree with others comments that the price is too high for a refurbished lens. Your only saving $150. Check to see what the difference in warranty is. If it is only 90 days I would by NEW. IMHO

I use Adobe Lightroom 5 with no trouble under Windows 7 Ultimate with Service Pack 1.

Intel i7-2600K
8GB DDR3 RAM
500GB Hard Drive
CD/DVD Burner
Nvidia GTX 560TI 1GB Video Card
25" LCD Monitor

I can think of NOTHING which requires Windows 8

Most companies which do not want to go the way of the dinosaurs eventually capitulate to the demands of the customer. I can see Adobe dropping this cloud thing, severely curbing it and/or letting customers buy software packages again. There are just too many other options and I suspect very few actually HAVE to use Photoshop. As previously stated, Microsoft backed away from the cloud after its customers through a major fit. The cloud is nothing more than an attempt to corral and back into a corner all customers and bleed their wallets ..... forever! Has nothing to do with piracy and everything to do with $$$! IMHO

CLOUD SERVING =

I have a D200 which uses compact flash memory. I have read that it is risky to take the memory in and out due to the many pins which can be bent. Personally I have been doing this for years and never bent a pin. With the D200 the memory is in a tight track and unless you get stupid there is no way to accidentally bent a pin I can see. With this said, I bought a multi-card reader and installed it into a 3.5" slot on my computer. Works fast and alleviates the pain in the butt cord method. Using a card reader is convenient and much faster. My computer can suck the pictures off the compact flash at 25 mb/s. Several hundred photos takes seconds instead of minutes and does not kill the camera battery.

After reading the news I have come to the conclusion that when it comes to the law, be it a police officer, judge, prosecutor or politician, the law seems to be what they say it is and this can change on a regular basis. What is written down on paper seems to be irrelevant. Just like our wonderful Government side steps the Constitution as they see fit.
