The big black mark in the bottom of the window. The window was up high.

I agree completely. Sadly I really believe many people would simply give up photography if they could not have AF and other auto features.

Photographers who avoid manual lenses out of principle or because they don't have enough confidence to do themselves what their digital cameras are doing for them are really missing out on some great and often very affordable lenses.

I use the Nikon series E 100mm with excellent results. May be plastic but it is very durable and solid. Fluid focus. MUCH better than a new plastic Chinese lens any day. If you can get use to manual focus it is a superior choice, IMHO! :-D

Stick with camera dealer with a good name. I use B&H and have never been sorry ..... With a couple thousand dollars at stake do you really want to risk getting S*****D to save a few hundred? I know money is tight BUT .... being able to return something without question is priceless. Remember if the price is too low to be true, it probably is. When all the big names have a camera for one price and a few have it for substantially less there is a reason. The camera is refurb or just the camera and no charger/battery (which is extra) or an import model or it is plain BAIT! Another option is buy refurb from Canon. I have never bought refurb but the people who have swear you can not tell the difference from a new camera except for the price being lower.

Good luck on your purchase.

You could download the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack from the Microsoft website. Covers many camera formats in install.

This was taken with my 100mm 2.8 series e lens with no flash @ 7:20pm. This lens is amazing. Beats the crap out of the 28-105mm 3.5-4.5 lens as far as light capability goes.
The image is slightly soft as it was shot through a double glass window and the glass is dirty. I like manual focus on my Nikon D200. It will only work as Aperture Priority or Full Manual but the matrix metering works. Forces me to learn how to use the camera.

Thanks to all who responded. Got the 100mm series E from a camera shop. It is a real Nikon and in like new condition to boot. The owner of the camera shop had been told Nikon series E lens were garbage so he sold it to me for $65. Works very well and I could not be happier. I like this lens so much I sold my Nikon 50mm 1.8D. I do not miss auto focus. I am using this lens on my Nikon D200 and it meters great once the data has been entered into the camera. I will say this 100mm series E lens is much better than my previous Nikon 50mm 1.8D was and it is made in Japan.

I had the same thing happen when I bought a used D80. It was the shutter going bad. Fortunately since I had only had the camera a few days the seller took it back. It was repairable but $250 ~ $300 was more than I paid for the camera and was not going to happen. Your ERR message could be anything. The ERR is a camera malfunction code and not specific. Have the camera checked out by an AUTHORIZED Nikon service center.

I clearly don't love them.....in fact I never attach them when setting up a new camera. They get hooked on something and have caused more harm than good over the years. But.......REALLY RIGHT STUFF (B2 FABN) has released a new product that attaches to your camera strap (the strap does not attach to your camera)....and you can then clamp on your camera when and if you want....or remove when you want. The strap stays around your neck most of the time with no camera attached. You can then attach your camera only if you need both hands to do something else. Pretty cool.

Here is the link to this little gem

Well it is going to be the lesser of too evils. Camera straps and all the grief they bring or a damaged/dead camera from hitting the ground. Personally, I will take the strap every time or the latter.

Ebay :

What amazes me is the silly prices some lens are sold for on Ebay.

For the same price or little more used lens are around from a lot of authorised dealers. Aside form the warranty there is the issue of mould etc.

Just don't understand it !!!

OK, I just spent 2 hours Goggling, 1 hour on UHH "search". I couldn't find the answers I need. I need info from personal experience, please.

Can I use a 16GB CF card in my newly acquired Nikon D200 ? If so, what brand & type? I have a Sandisk Ultra 4GB & Sandisk 8GB Extreme. Thanks for any & all help.

YES! I have use a 16GB Sandisk in my D200 and it worked just fine. However I have decided to use a 4GB as not to put all my eggs in one basket. I shoot RAW and still get 200+ shots and the 4GB is around $20 at Walmart. If you shot JPG you will get 100's of shots.

Here is an image taken on Beachy head on a cold, miserable cloudy day, followed by 2 mins of Lightroom brushwork and colour temperature manipulation.
From a distance, maybe it works, close up it does not feel right and I would have to add some shadows.

The original looks a lot more natural.

This is nothing new ........ Nikon is the same way. Buy from Authorized Dealer to have a warranty. Even if buy an camera or lens with a blank warranty card you still need a valid receipt from an Authorized Dealer. Unfortunately you must play their game or forfeit the warranty.

So long as the top notch quality is maintained it should not matter where the equipment is made.

My Nikon D200 is made in Thailand. I have no issues with the camera. I have a Fuji point and shoot made in China and it works just fine. Due to the fact a lot of manufacturing today has been automated the stereotyping of bad quality a lot of times no longer applies.
