OK, I just spent 2 hours Goggling, 1 hour on UHH "search". I couldn't find the answers I need. I need info from personal experience, please.

Can I use a 16GB CF card in my newly acquired Nikon D200 ? If so, what brand & type? I have a Sandisk Ultra 4GB & Sandisk 8GB Extreme. Thanks for any & all help.

It sounds like you have seen some answers from hoggers who send everyone to Google first before they can distill the drops of their knowledge.

I shoot both Canon and Nikon and use the Lexar professional 400x 16gb compact flash UDMA. Have never been disappointed with it . There are many other cards out there . All depends on what you decide on after speaking with a reputable camera sales person . Really cant tell you which one to chose . Much depends on your shooting style and budget >

I have a both a D200 and 16 gig CF cards.
Unfortunately the camera is at home and the cards are at work. They do work in a D300.
If this is not resolved by Friday, when I will most likely return to work, I will find out for sure.
I use only Lexar & Sandisk Pro cards.

Have you checked the manual that came with your camera?

I have a D50 that is about the same age as the D200 and a 2 gig card is the largest it will take. I think the best way to find out is ask a friend if you can stick yours in your camera and see if it works. - Dave

Yes. Any brand. Type II.

That being said, there are brands that seem to be more reliable than others. I, personally, have 2 and 4GB Kingstons, Sony, SanDisk. In 8 GB, all of mine are SanDisk. Wouldn't touch PNY with a 20 foot pole.

Question? Why do you 'need' 16 GB? Aren't' your 4 and 8's enough? The larger the capacity, the more prone to failure.

Page 183 D200 Nikon manual

SanDisk and Lexar are recommended. The largest size is 8GB according to the manual. If there was a software update that would enable the camera to use a larger card, I would expect to find information on the Nikon website. Ultra and Extreme are both fine. I have used Ultra, Extreme III or IV.

I have a D200 and D300s and have never used anything larger than a 4GB. I download after a shoot and always carry extra cards with me. My theory is that if I have too much on one card I might get lazy and neglect to transfer or if a card went bad I would loose everything.

I can't find a copyright date on the manual, but the product brochure is from 2010. 16GB cards weren't reliable yet.
So..this is one place where I WOULDN'T take the manual as gospel.

Otherwise, I agree with Sheila.

I used 4GB cards in my D200 (which I no longer own), but when I put a Kingston 16GB 600X card in it, the camera would not recognize it. But at 10MP it was literally impossible to fill up a 4GB card so I never tried any others in it.

Thanks for the reply.
It's a vicious circle. Nikon says "check with Sandisk" & Sandisk says "check with Nikon".

Yes. Any brand will work. The D200 write speed is not brilliant so choose an el-cheapo card.

I definitely will stick with either Sandisk or Lexar.
