Actually the first Chevy V8 powered production cars were sold in 1917 in their model D cars. 1955 was the first year of their legendary "small block" V8 line.

Sorry, missed Kuzano's post

Yes, I did see Kuzano's post and I opened his link. We learn something new everyday, don't we?

I noticed when looking at old snapshots of people, the large point of interest is often the cars. "that's Uncle Buck, and wow look at that 51' Lincoln convertible he's leaning on." The cars never seem important when taking the snapshot, but as the years go bye, they do, so I often will make sure to get a good pic with the cars if available.

Whitehall tires from the 1950s were a big thing. I remember a relative bragging that he had Whitehall tires instead of all black. He used scrub soaps pads on them for cleaning.

Beautiful car. 1955 was Chevy's first ever V-8 engine. A Classic Car. Thanks for sharing.

Camera prices seem to be all over the place here in Canada. Just checked my local Bestbuy sale pricing on Nikon D3300 with 18-55 kit lens @ $549.99 which is equal to $385.00 US dollars. Very rare that we Canadians can buy at a discount to what you Americans can buy taking exchange rates etc. into consideration. Exact same camera at Henry's in eastern Canada cost $35.00 more but is still only $415.00 in US dollar terms. While at a small family owned local camera shop (Nikon authorized retailer) the price on the exact same camera/lens combo is still cheaper than the other Canadian retailers by $25.00 before the discount for local camera club members and that oddity rarely ever happens!
Something weird in cameraland!
However great opportunity for any American to buy an excellent entry level camera if willing to accept an international warranty rather than a USA warranty!

That's interesting info on the currency differences between Canada and the USA. Thanks.

Great buys exist on refurb D5300s. Under $500. Like all D5xxx it has articulated screen. It also include WIFI and GPS. It's image sensor and processor mstches the twice as expensive D7100.

I understand the D5500 sensor and processor are like the D7200. But it does not have GPS. But then I don't use the GPS because of battery drain.

I don't think Nikon made a wise decision by raising the price on the D3300. Especially being discontinued soon. If you want Wi-Fi, you have to spend another $50 for an adapter. That's $600 now. It was only a few months ago that you could get a refurbished D7200 at Adorama for $769.

So, those of you who look at the details of what I shoot, notice that I am perpetually using a Sigma 18-35 7/1.8 ART lens for most of my work. Which, since a lot of what I do is wide angle landscapes and panoramas, is usually positioned on the 18 mm side. So, do I need the zoom capabilities? What would happen to my work if I used a fixed prime lens for landscapes, and more importantly:

What lens would you recommend?

Not manufacturer, but focal length.

TIA.

The lens you have already is satisfactory. I have a 28mm 2.8 prime that I rarely use. It was defined as wide angle when I bought it 8 years ago. Not anymore. I'm wishing for a 24-70mm.

DOG FOR SALE

A guy is driving around the back woods of Montana and he sees a sign in
front of a broken down shanty-style house: 'Talking Dog For Sale 'He rings
the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever
sitting there.

'You talk?' he asks.

'Yep,' the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says 'So,
what's your story?'

The Lab looks up and says, 'Well, I discovered that I could talk when I
was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so... I told the CIA.

In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in
rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be
eavesdropping.'

'I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running...

But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting
any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the
airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters
and listening in.

'I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired.'

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for
the dog.

'Ten dollars,' the guy says.

'Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him
so cheap?'

'Because he's a Bullshitter. He's never been out of the yard'

The Nikon D5200 succeeded the D5100. The must current of the 5xxx series is the Nikon D5500.

The pols here must have learned well then because my little town of Denham Springs LA now pays the highest sales tax in the country @ 10.5%, beating out Chicago.

I thought California had the highest taxes on everything. 10.5% sales tax in Denham Springs, LA. That's way too much.

Wasabi batteries are good 3rd party options. And the links provided by Robertski are good alternatives too. Unbeatable prices listed.

Sony bought Minolta. Minolta AF lenses work on Sony A mount cameras and with adapters they work on Sony E mount cameras.

Sony is the king of sensor technology. Many other camera manufactures use Sony sensors. It seems good to look at Sony cameras.

The Nikon D810 and Pentax K-1 are said to have Sony 36 megapixels sensors. True?
