Adobe Reader tried to do an "update" and add their "cloud." Didn't want it, didn't ask for it, didn't let them do it.

No, I don't like the idea of my stuff going to "clouds" no matter where they stash the information. I am sure that info goes somewhere else other than just the cloud on my computer. Otherwise, why encourage everyone to use a cloud?

You do not need to store anything on the cloud with that licensing arrangement. You do get access to updates as they happen. Those you download from the cloud, but your stuff is on your computer and in your backups.

Wasn't that Bill Gates in his dealings with IBM for MSDOS?
IIBM wanted to buy DOS, but Bill Gates licensed it to them.... so he got a cut from EVERY PC sold....

I thought it was IBM didn't want to pay a lot to buy it so THEY came up with the clever idea to just license it.

Thanks. My real issue is indeed field of view for an upcoming Grand Canyon trip. (Of course you can never get it all anyway) I've always stayed with Canon lenses but I don't see enough of a difference in the 16MM from my 24-105.

Then go with the Sigma. It is way wider. and you have the rest covered.

I have thought on this for quite awhile and hesitated to post for fear of being misunderstood. I will be the first to admit that many of my photos are not the greatest, but I have learned in 35 years of photography what a good photo should be.
My thought is that we are doing a disservice to our fellow "Hoggers" when we tell them how great their pictures are when they are over/under exposed, out of focus etc.I realize we have many levels of photographers in our group, but we should be trying to help one another become better. When we tell someone their pictures are good when they are not we are not helping them.We should be able to offer constructive criticism without being mean or "self righteous" but encouraging others to be better. Just my opinion, thanks for letting me ramble.

I agree with you. But I think the point of the post is that some people cannot manage to criticize “without being mean or ‘self righteous’." In fact some seem to enjoy responding to an honest question with disdain and sarcasm. They are sometimes more interested in showing how smart they are than in providing useful assistance. This has derailed many useful threads as people react to the troll. I must confess I am guilty of allowing myself to be bated into this on occasion.

One can be honestly critical and civil at the same time.

At first blush, I think the Sigma fills better the void at half the cost of the Canon 16-35 2.8. Is it the wide angle that is important or do you need a large apeture as well? The L lens is a fine piece of glass, but Sigma makes nice equipment for the cost.

Hello UH members. Newbie Sunnybuck here. I've been told many times throughout my lifetime that there is no such thing as a dumb question! So here goes... If someone new to the world and works of photography were to think about adding a bridge camera to the camera bag, with the apparent conclusion (according to the threads posted here) that a bridge will never produce the photo quality of the DSLR, why would one add it to the camera bag in the first place? Am I missing something here? Humor welcome....

If you are adding it to the camera bag, what is already in there? A P&S, your iPhone, a large format with glass plates?

Not entirely.

I guess maybe I don't see much of a point in sharing a photo if I'm not willing to accept some constructive criticism of it. Furthermore, if someone says "Hey, great photo!", shouldn't I have the latitude to say "Hey, no it's not!" if it's not, without being lambasted, provided I take the time to explain why it's not?

While there is a "Photo Analysis" section, the sub-heading to this section also mentions "general critique".

My view is this: I shoot some real crap sometimes. Odds are, you're never going to see it. But if someone posts something that's relative garbage, where's the harm in pointing out the shortcomings of the photo (without calling it garbage, of course)?

I could cite examples, but I'm intentionally trying not to do that...
Not entirely. br br I guess maybe I don't see muc... (show quote)

That is why there are 2 forums Photo Gallery and Photo Analysis. One is used when just wanting to share and the other when one wants more serious critique.

You might want to ask Harry at bullrunnings. He can point you in good directions. Tell him Dennis sent you. Then ignore any cursing. While he focuses on Bull Run, he knows a lot about anything related to the CW.

Agree. It is a sure way to get them to spread their wings.

I also agree that checking in with the true macro forum is a good idea.

Check the information on the box. Since I always use a protective filter, I've never been worried anyway. I've never used anything but a blower and a microfiber cloth on a lens surface, never had to. But I do use the Zeiss wipes on filters, viewfinders, flash components AND batteries and battery and other electrical contacts. I also wipe my lens mount surfaces when I come back in from shooting.

I also use filters. I don't mind wiping a filter, but I hate feeling I need to rub anything across a lens. Using a filter helps me avoid that.

Actually though, the PC might still be here, but, obviously, the MAC (built on a UNIX foundation made available because of the break up of Ma Bell) would not since the UNIX code would not have been available for that type of use.

The Unix foundation is one of the things that makes the MAC more difficult (though not impossible) to infect.
