I don't like the idea of the cloud. I currently use Photoshop CS5. If I can avoid the cloud I will go to Elements. Am I alone in my dislike of the cloud?

Elements will remain a stand-alone program for now. It may go subscription in the future but Adobe seems content with having it a user-owned software.

Of course you do realize that even the "cloud" programs actually are on your computer right and nothing resides on the "cloud".

I do realize it is resident on my computer. I don't like the idea of them taking taking money out of my an accont monthly.

I am for buying a program, downloading it and running it on my hard drive.. otherwise you are on the hook monthly or else your software stops working.

I just bought the latest version, PSE 13, just so I'd have the latest on my hard drive that didn't check from week to week to see if my subscription had been paid up.

Have PSE 8, 10, 11 & 12 - bought 12 as soon as it came out for 64 bit speed but found I wanted PS for some of it's capabilities, and for the tiny cost per month for it, Lightroom & Bridge figured why not... I can always go back to PSE if I need to, or Gimp :)

Lightroom, well harder to replace for me, but there are a few alternatives....

For half the price of one inexpensive bottle of wine a month I have use of two of the premier photo editing software available.

It is one of the minor pleasures I get to enjoy many times a week and is reasonably priced.

Adobe withdraws money monthly rather than demanding full payment for one or two years up front, gives 30 day free unhampered trial use of the programs and updates both programs occasionally; I can find no fault in their marketing plan.

Sorry you disagree.

What if half way through your bottle of wine they decide you're no longer entitled to drink it? Read your EULA...

I would reactivate one of my "on pause" hobbies and continue to enjoy life. To me life is about going with the flow, doing that which I want to do as long as I'm able and not worrying about "what ifs".

My attorneys can worry about "what ifs"; I'm outside playing.

Though Adobe could start denying users access to software I can't imagine a scenario where they would willingly alienate/tick off their paying customers...

I also think you have to activate your stand alone version, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they could disable your activation status on that standalone software just as easily as my subscription service. I don't know but that could be in your EULA as well.

PSE is inexpensive, so lots of people will buy it. Paying $10/month for that would be ridiculous. On the other hand, paying $1,000 for your own copy of PS was also out of the question for many people. It's more affordable to pay $10/month for PS and LR.

I have PS6 and LR5, so I'm not tempted by the cloud.

Whoever came up with the idea that buying software does not mean you own it should be viewed as a saint by software companies and as a devil by users.

Imagine if car companies worked that way. You pay $30,000 for a car, but you can never sell it.
