Yes the position of the softbox has changed from the previous shots, it was approx 45deg and slightly above head,,

Well that will change the light in the eyes and how sharp they appear. If you want to show how a change affects a shot, only make that one change. Don't change the pose or lighting position. Otherwise you end up with a false comparison like in one of those deceptive diet adds.

You know the ones. The woman faces the camera straight on with slouched shoulders, arms limp at her sides, a depressed look on her face and pushing her stomach out. In the after shot she is body profile to the camera with the head turned toward the camera (stretching her neck.) She stands up straight, sucks in her gut and smiles. Of course she looks thiner, but the shot could have been on the same day for all we know.

Just a thought. Is this a new lens or are you doing something different? Perhaps you are just getting better and previously your would not have had a picture sharp enough to show the spider line or the thread.

Well I have tried 4 times to post 5 images and each time it fails. I tried again tonight with my Sigma 105 and again It was very soft, I will try again to post that one on its own..

From the reflections in the eyes, it appears that the lighting positions have changed, not just the soft box being on or off.

It seem to only happen on the homepage. The other grades look fine. I think you need to contact the site admin.

Maybe just crops of the eyes if you don't want to post the whole photo.

Okay, The example I gave is a pic of a squirrel taken at about 40 ft. with a telephoto lens and then cropped. I guess I should have walked up to the squirrel and poked the camera in it's face and asked him to smile. Thanks for the sage advice.

Or used a lens appropriate for the job. I am not just being snarky.

You do not judge a camera sensor just by what happens in unfortunate situations (like having your kit lens on instead of a zoom appropriate for taking a picture at 40 ft), but by results when used appropriately. What if you had a 600mm prime on and wanted to take a portrait of your granddaughter 5 feet away? Blame it on the sensor because you could not reverse crop it?

I stand corrected, with cars there is a choice, with Adobe there IS NO choice. Therefore cars and Adobe are not the same. When you buy the software, when you could, they state you still did not own it, this does nothing include updates like you stated.

You do not "own" any software unless you wrote it in machine language. You only licence it. What do you think the L in EULA is for?

The Nikon D7100 is likely the best DSLR crop sensor camera available judging from comments on the Hog for the past year. A D7200 is rumored to be coming soon which will drive the 7100 prices down. That might leave more money available for GLASS which is the most important part of the whole deal. Try to buy an FX lens which can be used on the inevitable full-frame sensor upgrade when she buys the next camera body.

Unless you are in to sports or wildlife. Then the new Canon 7DII wins hands down.

I am not really sure what they call, "the cloud" I hear that it is similar to "Drop Box." The only thing I know about Drop Box is that it is hanging out there somewhere and that everyone's info goes into it and everyone that has a password can take information out. Or, people hack into it and the hackers take the information they want, like the nude photos they stole of those actresses...

If all my info is on my computer anyway, why use a cloud?
Not sure what the advantages are of using it. I get regular updates anyway. I think I would feel better about using Carbonite.

They only people that have access to your dropbox are those you give it to.

Regarding quality, it depends on how much detail you want in the picture when you crop. I agree that full size it's hard to tell the difference. But if you are going to crop your photos that's where the difference lies. Not everyone wants to crop their photos. Two pics of a squirrel on a tree will look the same. But if you crop it down to a view of just the squirrel's face and whiskers you will see what your camera and lens is or is not capable of.

Of course you could just compose your shot better when you take it.

Just a thought.

The point in my bringing up HDR in this post was that I wondered why no one was talking about it. When people talk about getting good pictures from smart phones they talk about noise reduction and HDR, amongst other things, so I was wondering about HDR in this context.

In-camera HDR might be an advantage when my wife wants to chimp my camera.

The wide angle distortion of the Sigma is easily corrected in PP. However, if you need the 12mm and are stuck with 16mm, that cannot be corrected.

Also, I am still not sure which 16-35 the OP was asking about. Is it the 4 or the 2.8?

For Adobe, or any company offering low cost subscriptions for software, it is a guaranteed income stream, it is to their benefit to keep the monthly cost low or lose subscribers. There ARE alternatives available, and should the costs become too great, I am sure that those alternatives will be used.

I should add, if you do a lot of post, it really is a good deal.

spider silk in the first picture and a piece of lint in the second picture

First is clearly spider made. I think the second is lint or a loose fiber that just floated in. With my eyes, I sometimes fail to see little threads in real time, but can see them later in the photo.

Swiffer before you shoot?
