I'm Craig. I began shooting with a SLR camera back in the early 80's when dating my wife (we both had cameras and photo outings were a great dating opportunity). I stopped shooting after a few years - as a young couple starting out, our budget just couldn't support the cost of film and developing.

Around 2008 I bought a DSLR and began shooting again. I photographed everything from flowers and bugs to my sons at their lacrosse games. I bought a motorcycle in 2013 and began taking trips. Unfortunately, I didn't feel comfortable packing my DSLR so my iPhone became my go-to (and the DSLR went on the self).

Fast forward to the fall of 2019 I was reflecting on the things I've enjoyed over the years and realized I needed to get back to using a DSLR. The iPhone no longer held my interest and there wasn't much challenge. I realized I enjoy the feel of a DSLR and being more connected with my gear; to me, it feels more like what photography is all about and I wasn't able to get that from the iPhone.

I now shoot with a Canon EOS RP and I love it. This time around I am committed to developing all areas in my journey as a photographer - from planning a shoot, to deciding what settings to use on location, to working with filters, to post-production, to printing.

Friday I drove up to the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon to check on the state of Albion Basin, the site of a great wildflower bloom every summer. We still have 2 to 4 weeks because the snow has not melted in the valley crease. I decided to stop on the way down to take some landscape shots (I will post these later).

I then discovered that the remaining snow was yielding a great downhill flow. The conditions were poor because it was mid-day. Many of my water shots were blown out (probably should have had a polarized filter).

The ones that I was able to salvage are attached to give an idea of the results of the continuing thaw.

Downloads are best to see in the shadows.

I really like the sense of motion in the water. You didn't stop the motion, but you didn't blur it either. Excellent photos.

Strange day - beautiful sun then three or four cloudbursts in the course of the day. Now, moving into late afternoon some interesting cloud masses. DF and AF S Nikkor 18-35 - 3.5 4.5 G
The DF does this kind of thing exceptionally well, IMO.

Beautiful photo's and an enviable yard.

I posted some of these the other day, but they disappeared from the photo gallery almost right away, so I thought I would repost them. Sorry if you have already seen them.

Drove up to Milton, Pa. today with my wife to order a cap from the Leer Factory Outlet for my new truck. On the way back, at the suggestion I decided to get a few shots of the Harrisburg skyline. Hope you enjoy.

Figured I may as well go ahead and post the last of this 'series' I shot a couple of days ago. Hope nobody gets bored by the repetition.

Both of these shots are among the more complex images I've made. Not only by virtue of the somewhat 'busy' nature of the scenes in view, but by way of the steps and procedures it took to assemble them. In effect, both are made of multiple horizontally shot images, and both contain portions that had been focus stacked, sections that were layered, composited and blended, and ultimately made into vertical 'portrait orientation' panos.

I rather like this tree. From some angles, it looks almost goofy. But in a warm, pleasant, welcoming sort of way, with its arms outstretched and looking like its ready to give somebody a big hug.

In 2017 the US had 45,000,000 flu cases. 2,000,000 doesn't seem that bad.

Hello, and thanks for allowing me to be a part of this forum. I'm a retired photojournalist from the Vietnam era. Used to be a film purist, but 4 years ago I bought a Nikon D3400 just to see if digital was any good. I am now using the Nikon D780... which I love. For the last 3 years my wife and I have driven across the USA on photoshoots of the country. We will be heading out again next week. If any of you are the praying sort, would love for your prayers for safety in these times we are in right now. Thanks

Well, knock me over with a feather and call me Shirley! Rather than its common line-up of drek programming like Ancient Aliens and The Curse of Oak Island, the cable network known as The History Channel is doing some solid history for a change! The other day it began a 3-part miniseries on Ulysses S. Grant; one of my favorite American heroes. Here is a preview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=lhzBYakZZW0&feature=emb_title . I watched part one the other day and thought it excellent. It should replay regularly if you missed it, or you can later find the series thru your cable television streaming service or thru other streaming services soon.
A good thing to watch!

How did you attach it?

I used ceramic coated deck screws. They're made for composite decking. They have a smaller head than a regular deck screw. I also used the torx drive head.

I need help from all you experts

I am rebuilding the deck and porch on our house and am thinking about using composite decking. Any idea as to whether the stuff is any good. Some online reviews say it warps and sags

Thanks

I used it when I built my deck 8 years ago. It still looks good. Used regular tools with it. It works just like wood. I have no warping or shrinkage. I'd say go for it.
