It wasn't so much me that was good back then, Mike, it was my camera. Of course, schlepping that boat anchor of a 20" x 24" wood field view camera up and down and roundabout was no simple matter, but it had to be done, I guess, or I'd never get a shot. Then there was that tedious task of having to hand coat those doggone glass plates with wet, smelly, fresh photosensitive glop, out there in the mud, muck and mire (and sand, can't forget to mention sand!). That was no picnic either, let me tell you!. What made it all a real pain though was that damn pack mule I had. Not only would ol' Jenny never do what I told her to do, she couldn't mix a decent Margarita at the end of a shootin' day for love nor money!

This one just smacks of the real deal. Im usually drawn into an image by details, but with this one its the colors. The transition of color in the sky, up from the horizon.
