First, as always with me, thanks for responding. Now, you need to know that I didn't ask for advice, I asked for an opinion which you gave in addition to alot of "stuff/advice " that I didn't ask for. I have enough professional nikkor lenses to cover focal lengths from 14mm to 800mm. I have no need for the Sigma Art series lens, it's a want. I wanted the opinion of my UHH family who had experience with this particular lens. You opinion/advice is the first negative post of this lens that I have received. I have no need to try to impress anyone with my photography equipment and for you to even suggest that from my original post speaks volumes about you. Where I welcome comments and opinions, I'm ALWAYS very respectful on this forum and you should keep that in mind when offering your opinion.

He "recommends" the all plastic Yongyuo, so that belies the expertise expressed! 🤣🤣

I have a Tamron 17-50 2.8 lens and the lens hood will not come off. I accidently put it on( in the storage position) 90 degrees off from where you would normally start and now it will not unlock from either direction.
Any thoughts on how to remove it.
I already ordered a new one and will cut it off if nothing else works I reckon.

Those early Tamron bayonet hoods are well know for sticking like that. Proper force will remove it, I have had to take a few off for customers over the years.
Stand the lens on its body cap, grip the hood tightly, a rubber jar lid remover helps if you have one, I just use a scrap piece of perforated rubber shelf liner. Push down and turn counterclockwise, HARD, just like removing a pill bottle lid. This works, don't be afraid of using too much force.

Once again I come to my UHH community for help. Has anyone had any focusing or purple fringing issues with this lens? I currently have the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 but wanted a bit faster 50mm and everyone has been raving about this Sigma Art lens, not the latest version. I welcome comments, thanks.

The Sigma 50mm F1.4 Art is probably the finest 50mm prime lens ever made, short of a Noct that costs 3-4 times as much. Never seen any fringing at all from one of them.

Who sells them in the states now Carter?

Don

No one. The factory in China was leveled in September of 2019 by the Chinese government due to it being in the hot zone of the covid outbreak. All inventory, equipment, and components were destroyed! This was before we in America had even HEARD of Covid 19!

Great idea Carter. Are you back home or still on your Canadian quest?

Crossed back into the USA in August. Tried to go thru Glacier Park on the way home but with the failed reservation system we couldn't even get in!

Just a recycling note, lots of wildlife would appreciate your leftover pumpkins, even domestic livestock enjoy them. Mine got donated to the squirrels this year, they are making short work of them!

Is it a newer version with Arca Swiss plate mounts?

ALL Nest NT-530 gimbal heads had Arca-Swiss mounts. I designed the head and was the sole USA distributor of them.

Maybe that's old school now? Am I missing out on a modern trend? Professionals don't use lens hoods now? They are only for amateurs?

Almost never shoot without a hood. Reduces or eliminates solar flaring as well as provides great lens protection.

Recently purchased a Nikon 500mm PF... intending on using a TC1.4x [ either Orig I, II, III] - BUT when I looked at

a Nikon compatibility site, it states AF will NOT work??? That would NOT be good for me... is anyone using this lens

with a TC1.4x extender and IF so does the AF work???

Maybe the Nikon site was referring to older Nikon bodies, I don't know.. I have a D800e body, I intend to use for

now.

I have used my 500mm F5.6 PF lens WITH both 1.4x and 1.7x TCs quite successfully on mt D850, Z7, and Z9 bodies with no loss of AF performance at all.

Z7, FTZ adapter, Nikon 1.7x TC, Nikon 500mm F5.6 PF shot in evening light.
