I have a Tamron 17-50 2.8 lens and the lens hood will not come off. I accidently put it on( in the storage position) 90 degrees off from where you would normally start and now it will not unlock from either direction.
Any thoughts on how to remove it.
I already ordered a new one and will cut it off if nothing else works I reckon.
Maybe try warming the hood in the sun? Body heat? Warm dry towel?
Thinking of the warmth "expanding" the hood.

Already tried that, but thank you anyway.
Take it to the closest camera shop and they might have the answer
Maybe some penetrating oil could penetrate into the threads.
Bayonet mount?
Maybe 2 of the three mounts got connected and the third is up/down (cattywumpus)?
That could make it very tight, as in jammed.

Those early Tamron bayonet hoods are well know for sticking like that. Proper force will remove it, I have had to take a few off for customers over the years.
Stand the lens on its body cap, grip the hood tightly, a rubber jar lid remover helps if you have one, I just use a scrap piece of perforated rubber shelf liner. Push down and turn counterclockwise, HARD, just like removing a pill bottle lid. This works, don't be afraid of using too much force.
Proper force. Something similar to this.
It is not threaded, just a quarter turn twist.
would probably twist the lens off the camera before the hood would release.

Ok, for anyone else who needs to know, I came across this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWyFKMwBsWg
that helps explain it. I figured out that you do have to use a bit of force to turn/remove it. With the front of the lens facing you, turn the hood counter-clockwise (to the left) to take it off the lens and after matching up the small white dots on the hood and on the lens, turn it clockwise to install it onto the lens.--

IOW, get a good grip, force it off, and then just put it on correctly. (Always been SOP.)
Getting a grip by hand it is easy to distort the hood and make it bind up. I use a small cheap strap wrench to distribute grip all around and avoid distortion.
