Subject to field seperation, Viewers eye is drawn to areas of high contrast. the two kids creeping under the platform in the OP's version add to the story Herbie 1924's crop is , in comparison, dead IMHO.

I shoot with a Sony A7 iV. That camera body does an ISO reset at ISO 400 (where the noise levels jump back down to ISO 100 levels) and a smaller reset at ISO 1600. Based on my observation that noise does not damage a photo nearly as much as does camera movement, and a keeper photo with a little noise is preferable to a "throw away" blurred image, I have set my camera to take photos at a minimum shutter speed of 1/250, my mode to Aperture priority and I let the camera set the ISO up to an upper limit of iso 12.800. Given my shaky hands, even with image stabilization the extra shutter speed makes a huge difference and the camera's high iSO noise performance makes noise almost a ho-hum thing. I believe that the ISO FEAR that is being talked about in the blogs ,vlogs and photo forums is a result of the photo press experts needing something to write about in their equipment reviews and critiques. i think that noise is, now, just a convenient topic even though it's visual impact is slighter than they would have us believe.

High ISO loss of dynamic range and high ISO color shift are, potentially more damaging tp a photo than is high ISO noise

So many times I see advise to always use the lowest ISO. A recent thread someone was looking for more powerful flash unit and when asked "what ISO are you using" the response was "lowest possible". What does that mean? With modern cameras is there any reason to use "the lowest" ISO other than to obtain a slower shutter speed?

Modern cameras can utilize higher ISOs such as 400 800 even 1200 without significant noise. In fact what contributes more to noise is underexposure. Fear of bumping up ISO in fact may result in a more noisy result.

There is a limit of course. If planning on shooting in dim light it's wise to experiment, take pics, in dim light, and determine where the limit is, for ISO vs noise. This is subjective and also camera dependent. How many have done this?

AGREE WITH NITEMAN: Photo 1 has a clear center of interest. photo 2 (while still an attractive scene) lacks that clarity of intent since the foreground detracts from the center of attention and the horizon line is IMHO too centered leaving me unsure of the photog's intent (SKY VS FOREGROUND)

How do you get such depth of field and yet a short enough shutter to almost show the wings. Please let me know , since I'd love to emulate your methods.

I would wager it is in large part to save money because the great majority of their subscribers are like me - digital only for many years until I dropped my subscription last year because they became too woke for me. That blurb from them about it sounds like they have now taken their "wokeness" to a new level. Smithsonian got dropped for the same reason a long time ago.

I hear the word WOKENESSS being used in a perjorative manner, yet I have no idea of it's CONCISE meaning. Please define the word. THANKS

I'm unsure about your reply. Are you offering to sell a Sigma 24 to 105 or are you simply saying that your arsenal includes such a lens and that you are agreeing with my choice of lens? BTW., the lens in the link attached to your reply is for an older version and not for the newer Sigma ART version.

If you are selling the lens and it is the ART version, please PM me

I recently bought a Sony A IV. Since my quiver of lenses was made up of Sony A mount lenses, I bought a LA EA5 adaptor which I use as a semi-permanent part of the camera body. Of my lenses The only one not usable on the full frame body to take full frame photos is a Sigma 17-70 APSC (25.5 to 105 mm Full Frame equivalent angle of view), This is due to severe vignetting when the crop sensor designed lens is used on the full frame body. I'm looking for a high quality Full Frame autofocus A mount 24-105 of any brand name used in good to like new condition at a very attractive price. (An example is the Sigma 24-105mm F4.0 Art DG HSM Lens for Sony A- Mount) Perhaps a UHH has one they would sell, or can point me toward a source who wants to sell one

So why did you look at my posts? Goodbye - don't bother answering as I'm opting out and won't read anything from you.

As the OP I am struck by how the subject morphed from how to download Sony A7 IV raw images into Apple's Photos to a rather heated discussion of the relative merits of Jpeg vis.Raw. That is not the question I asked.

To those who did restrict their response to the question I originally asked. Thank you !

When I got my new Sony A 7IV, I populated the top card slot Slot 1 with a Amplim 128 gB micro SD in Amplin Adaptor and the bottom slot,Slot 2, with a 32 GB an Disk Extreme
= 90 mb/sec hc1 U3, C10 card, then formatted both cards in camera My rec. Media Settings for still photog were then set to Slot 1 J- Fine 33M Slot 2 RAW . My Recover Image DB. Slot I and slot 2 were shown as Not Found. Downloading the first few test images into my Photos Library on my Mac 5K 27 inch 2017 processor 3.8 ghz quad core intel core I 5 WITH 40 GB 2400 MHZ DDR4. I got the following which I captured via screenshot.

Surely, I'm not the first UHHer to run up against this. What have I not done during setup (or done and should not have)? How can I get my Mac go recognize Sony's 7 IV version of RAW???

Will need to repeat this at various sun positions, but please offer critiques for this image of this particular moment.

This is a phone cam sketch for something I will be able to revisit to work on further. It happens every sunny day ! Comments are verrrrry welcome.

What follows is my opinion only and should not be construed as fact:

Iteration #1: Interesting study of pattern, repetition and texture. But, what's the subject? What is the story? The photo doesn't engage me without those items.

Iteration #2 & #3: Ah -- that's better. The inclusion of the reflection of the person in the photo gives the photo a subject and a story.
