This is odd. I was looking at camcorders on eBay - just browsing. There are quite a few from Japan. One said the language was Japanese. I thought that was odd, so I asked about it. Yes, Japanese, only. It cannot be changed. Usually, cameras let you change the language during setup. I recently had a problem with an iPod. Doing reset, it got stuck on Japanese, and it took quite a while to get back to the setup menu.

is it a good enough deal to learn Japanese?

When was the last time you bought a product and received "English" only documents?

Before they got into producing passenger cars, the Duesenberg brothers ( Fred and Augie ) had developed some successful race cars during the 1913 to 1916 period. They built a total of 5 cars during those years. This car is the second oldest Duesenberg known to exist. The racing in those days was usually staged on high-banked wooden tracks about 1 mile in length. The car here finished second in the 1916 Indy 500 race.

This car had a very unusual engine. It was a 300 c.i. " walking beam " motor in which the over-head valves are directly activated by 2-foot long rocker arms. That engine also saw some use in early passenger cars. It produced 100 HP at 2,50 RPM.

Racing ceased during the WW I years. In late 1921, it resumed. This car was sold later in the '20s to a circus performer who used it to perform stunts. After he died in 1933, the car was put away in a barn. It was taken out in 1941 and restored to running condition. In the late '40s, a new owner had a complete engine rebuild performed, including a new cast iron block.

Just looking at the car, I could never be sure if I had seen one before; however, I am certain I have never seen that engine.

I posted about how I was going to replace the touch screen in a Sony camcorder. I found many sellers on eBay, so I ordered one. After receiving it, I removed the old screen, and I was ready to install the new one. Unfortunately, the new one was missing a ribbon cable. Mine had four, but the one I received had only three. It wasn't defective; it was made that way. The video I watched on YouTube showed someone replacing the screen, and that had four cables.

Obviously, I wasn't going to use the new LCD, so I emailed the seller, and I just received a reply. I can return it for a refund because I "bought the wrong item." His lengthy reply emphasized the fact that it was all my fault, but he would allow me to return it for a refund if I said I was returning it because I bought the wrong item. "It is because you purchased the wrong product."

What's odd is that every seller is offering the same three-cable item, and I doubt that Sony made two different camcorders with the same model number but different connectors. I hate giving up on this camera because it works otherwise. If Sony didn't give it a touch screen, it would still be working.

Me being me, I bought a used Sony HDR-SR11 camcorder from KEH for a reasonable price, described as EX, so I sort of got the old one working. I'm going to keep looking for an LCD for the old one and hope that I remember how to reassemble it when the time comes.

EDITED: This was sold by a Chinese company, but it was shipped from Kentucky. However, I must return it to China! šŸ˜ I don't think it's worth the trouble for a $22 item.

I also recently had an issue with an item bought from a Chinese company. Ordered the item on Amazon, received it quickly (they have stock stored in the USA), when assembling the item encountered a broken part, sent email to company with very specific info on broken part (their term describing the part, my pictures of part, picture of their assembly document page showing the part). Received a reply in a couple of days that said the factory was on vacation but they would ship part when they returned. Waited till after their vacation and emailed them again & they replied it was on the way... after a while sent email again... and again... and again. They finally replied I should have it shortly... and I finally received a packag. IT CAME FROM CHINA... not a part stored in USA. The box contained the WRONG PART. Several emails back and forth (which got a little heated) and they ended the conversations with... We sent you "a" part... Matter closed. Checked on Amazon to return the entire item... Return period had expired.

I put a detailed review of product/experience on Amazon... Immediately contacted by Chinese company, thru Amazon, wanting me to tell them what it would take to change/remove review... I replied... Give me the part I need. They replied... Take down review and we will refund entire price, including tax (about $160.) and no need to return item. I didn't feel good about it but took the review down and they IMMEDIATELY refunded, thru Amazon, with credit to my credit card.

I can use the item, with the broken part.

The dinner was wonderful and you canā€™t do much better for atmosphere than a table next to a canal in Venice as the sun starts to set! We found our way back to the vaporetto stop and then to San Marco via the vaporetto and then to the hotel via their boat. It turns out that there are two San Marco vaporetto stops and we got off at the wrong one and had to wait for the next vaporetto to get back to where we should have gotten off. We were tired from a full day in Venice and it was getting late, so we were a bit concerned that we would miss the last hotel boat back and have to pay for a private boat ride. However, we made it back fine and had a pleasant surprise when we arrived in our hotel room. Even though it was apparently Vikingā€™s error to cancel our hotel, a very nice bottle of chilled Prosecco was waiting for us in our room; see the last photo. Thanks, Marriott! It was late and we were leaving the next morning for Lake Garda, so we carefully packed the Prosecco and ended up drinking it one evening as we cruised the Rhine.

Note the accordian players in photos 3 and 6; they are very popular in Italy. I played the accordian for about 3 years as a child. My Father was a first generation American with both of his parents born in Italy, so it was a logical instrument for me to learn to play. I actually wanted to play the drums, but was overruled.

Thanks for sharing.

We visited there in 1971 for part of a day... Were staying a few miles away, on vacation, and a group of us took a bus over to spend the day I Venice. My pictures are a sad mess compared to yours.

I watched a YouTube unboxing and demo of a Miniot Wheel 2 Turntable, handmade in Norway (I think). The unusual thing about this is the fact that the stylus is under the turntable, so you play the record upside down. It's a beautiful, simple turntable, and I suspected it would be expensive. The reviewer said it cost Ā£450. To me, that's expensive, especially since I already have a couple of turntables.

Well, I was wrong. Maybe that Ā£450 was just for the stylus because the turntable itself costs between $2,000 - $4,000.

I gave away my records, and my ELAC turntable in the 90's. Had that turntable since 1969/70 (bought in the military Audio shop in Germany)... Oddly, it did not come with a case/enclosure... Bought that separately.

Sorry for your AMD. Just prayed for you.

I am not yet 80 and there is little, to no, chance I will live as long as you... You are indeed blessed!

Glad to see that you are prepared for the local transfer... Hope you can get a decent price for it all.

Glad to see that you are recognizing the need to stop driving. Hope you have friends and family to get you around.

To illustrate my point (above) for jerryc41's post see attached 2 pictures of results of internet speed test. The CAT6 (wire to modem) connection's DOWNLOAD speed is almost 3 times as fast as the WiFi connection... and my WiFi router is no slouch, but it is a couple of years old. YOUR MILEAGE MAY (no, actually WILL) vary.

Thanks for posting this accounting. The cost to get on the track has escalted...as you would imagine. As soon as I can find it, I'll post the schedule of costs you can incur if you wreck your car and damage any of the track...almost always the guard rail and support post. If you need a tow truck, which is very likely, that cost alone will shock you.

Let's say you wreck, tear up 5 or 6 feet of the guard rail, and cause a post to be repaired or replaced. In addition. your car is not drivable so you need a tow truck or maybe a flatbed. The very least of costs you are facing would start at $3,000. And god help you if your wreck causes them to shut down the track. That cost starts at $12,000 and can escalate quickly...depending on how long the track is closed.

This is a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Tour De France. The coachwork was done by Scaglietti, chosen because of their expertise in working with aluminum. It is powered by a V12 engine displacing 2953 cc and making 260 HP. Each cylinder has approximately 250 cc , which is why it's referred to as a 250 GT. It has a 4 speed manual transmission.

Prior to the 1959 Nurburgring race, the car was rolled over in a practice round. They pieced together a makeshift windshield, beat out some dents, and the car went on to win 1st in class and 9th overall. In the 1959 Le Mans race, it again won 1st in class and 3rd overall.

Beautiful car, thanks for sharing.

I ā€œaccidentallyā€ went around the Nurburgring track in our old Chevyā€¦ many years ago (guessing 1969 or 1970). The wife and I were in the area and I wanted to show my wife any of the track that we could seeā€¦ saw a line of cars and guessed they were doing the same. As we went thru the entrance, I didnā€™t see a way to go back out, so I stayed in the line. We reached a point where a guy was collecting a few DM (money, but not muchā€¦ maybe a dollar or 2 equivalent) which I paid and proceeded with the line of carsā€¦ which entered the track and sped up. It appeared to be a ā€œlet the public run the track dayā€. I ran our old 6 cyl Chevy as fast as I could, and stay married, even passed a couple of cars in the 20 some old milesā€¦ being careful of the combination of very fast cars comming by and very slow cars sightseeingā€¦ saw a couple of wrecked cars including a new Karmen Gia ( ? Spelling) trying to climb out a window since he was in a ditch just wide enough to hold his car doors shut. One of our memories.

Not only is the GPS great for traveling, but it's also good for local driving. I had to drop something off in Woodstock yesterday before continuing on to Catskill. I figured I'd take my regular route through Woodstock, but the GPS had a different idea. It had me turn left and right and left and right on roads I had never taken before. It wasn't until I was a few miles from Catskill that I was on a familiar road. I don't know how much time I saved, but the GPS is set for the shortest time.

This has happened several times when I am at a local location and have to go to another local location. The GPS shows me a route that never would have occurred to me.

For years I have several General Motors (GM) and one Honda with GPS. If I had kept the Honda, or taken it on a trip, I would have bought a Garmin for it. The GM vehicles seemed harsh to the driver when they deviated from the presented route and often gave TOTALLY RIDICULOUS routes.

I recently traded one of our GM vehicles for a Ford. So far, pleased with GPS. Also, when I deviate from its route it quickly, AND QUIETLY, presents a new path.
