My response is similar to most. Results in Manhattan were, in my openion, considerably above acceptable
when the D810 was paired with the 28-300mm lens. I made numerous hand held exposures of activities on the Hudson River and of a beautiful sunset through my hotel room window. Shots of Liberty taken from the top deck of a ferry on the Hudson were outstanding as well as the skyline of Manhattan taken from Liberity Island with the lens fully extended and hand held. I found out on arrival that tripods wern't permitted on the streets of Manhattan after the Trade Center Towers fell. I had a bag of lenses and my tripod to do some serious photography upon arrival. Day one was underway(tripod in hotel room) with the D810 and a backpack full of lenses on the streets around ground zero, the museum and the the new Trades Tower. Day two started with the D810 and 28-300mm lens on the subway to see the Macey's Tanksgiving Day parade: what a relief to leave the bag of lenses and tripod at the hotel. You won't go wrong on the D810 paired with the 28-300mm lens. Have a great holiday season, George

We decided to take a break from the continuing wet weather in the UK and arrived in sunny Spain. Just outside where we are staying is a 6 mile (9.6klm) boardwalk.

Hope you enjoy the stroll.

Canon 650D, 18-55 lens & Tamron 18-400.

Please try the downloads.

Sylvia, a beautiful area and a beautiful series. Well done!

I have a Nikon D2Xs with a similar problem recently. It was working perfectly, then for no reason, I couldn't get the shutter to release. I had installed a new, highest speed Lexar CF card available. After a couple months of wondering why the camera would turn on but shutter refused to acute. I removed the high speed card to use in a D810 and replaced the card in the D2Xs with an old Lexar card that had been used in it 15 or so years ago.
Shutter problem solved. It appears that the newer , high speed memory card was a problem for the older Nikon camera. Check and see if the card in use in the D80 is an older compatible card.
Good luck,
George

Was that owl done with thenlens and Kenko 2x ?
Graham

Graham, the Bald Eagle, our national emblem in US, was photographed with the same lens as yours but with
a NikonAF-S teleconverter TC-20EIII. From what I read, Kinko makes a good teleconverter. I have a set of Kinko extension tubes for close up work and their construction quality impressed me. If I were buying a third party teleconverter, it would be Kinko. Get out and practice on the birds in your area.
Have fun,

George

Couldn't say no ! It has very minor cosmetic damage but optic fine ,got it off eBay inc of P&P for £130 !!!
Only taken a handful to date ,but by Christ this looks very much like a keeper,it's 380 mm on my d7100'and with Kenko pro 300 on as well it will be ( not tried that yet ) a massive 760 mm equivalent !!!
Any body use one of these ?
Graham

Graham, the 2X Kenko extender should do well. I use my Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8 D with the newer Nikon 2x extender to give me 600mm of reach on a D500 with good results

Hi All,

Going on a cruise with stops in Rome, the Greek Islands and Turkey. Plan on taking a 16-35mm and 28-300mm lens and a Circ Polarizer filter. I've nixed a tripod.
To anybody that has been there your recommendations/comments would be much appreciated

Dary, I visited some of these areas several years ago without a tripod. Really wished I had a tripod for sunset/sunrise shots and night shots. A smaller tripod would of been a great help or even high quality monopod with the Three Legged Thing DOCZ foot stabilizer. with a cable release could work if you give enough time for the vibrations to subside, this setup could work as a second choice alternative. If you are using a DSLR, lock the mirror up. I have used the monopod set up in gardens that would not allow a tripods, with very good success, without the wind.
Sounds like a wonderful trip.

Have fun,

George
