I joined the Air Force in 1953, after tech school, I was assigned to a Fight Check Sq, where we would fly missions to check GCA at all bases in Korea, I was a crew chief on this C-47 and got to fly with it all over Korea and once a month take a trip to Japan to our HQ Sq, had over 350 hours of flight time in the Gooney Bird(the nickname it was called). Really a good bird, only had one scare on one flight going to Japan, when we lost one engine and the pilot said all crew member put on your parachutes as we had only one engine left, but we made it safely to Miho, Japan, where we changed engines and were on our way to Tachikaya Japan, spent 1 year in Korea.

I liked the old Gooney Bird as we use to call the C-47, While stationed in Korea in 1954, I flew as a Crew Chief on one, had 350 hours of flight time in it, it was a great aircraft.

We use to live in Missoula, MT and Johnson Flying Service use these as Smoke Jumper aircraft for the Forest Service, My Brother was a smoke jumper and jumped out of the Ford Tri Motor in 1957.
