I plan to visit the national parks especially in the western states and take photos in jpeg and raw to edit, process and print.
I’m upgrading my old iPad for a iPad Pro for this.
Out west uploading to the iCloud may be difficult.
How much memory should I have and pay for in the iPad Pro for the above?
Any advice would be greatly appreciate.

I use an iPad Air 2 and have over 1000 photos, 60 videos and 4 pages of apps and still have 38GB of 64GB left. That said 64GB would be fine, but looking at pricing I would go for 256 minimum since you will be adding raw files. At 256 you would not have to even think about. Pricing - just check out every source you can.

I have the 256 gig iPad Pro with 2400 photos on it and still have tons of room left. And you shouldn't have problems with iCloud out west. Anywhere you have an internet connection you can get to iCloud. Most hotels and lodges have wi-fi, so you should be in good shape.

Have an iPad Pro, 256GB memory with Lightroom and PS Express, which I have occasionally taken in the field. My recommendation is that you download your photos along the way and immediately delete the ones with technical issues like blur or poor composition to keep as much memory free as possible. Get a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for use in the hotel room. You might want to check with Apple to see if their lightening to SD card reader will work with your camera mem card, especially with raw files. I only use my ipad with jpg files. Getting my D500 to work with Snap Bridge using wireless on my ipad is a pain.

You might want to look at an alternative, which I find much more useful. I have a 15" Macbook Pro with an i7 and 512GB memory. It is thin and light and fits into my dslr Manfrotto travel backpack and I have no problems raw files from my Nikons. It costs about 2x what the ipad pro costs, but well worth it.

Well I just bought a Apple MacBook Air, MD711LL/B, 11.6" Laptop, 4GB Ran and 128GB HDD for $329 refurbished from DailySale, have bought several items from them and had good luck with them.

I have an iPad Pro which came with 32GB standard memory. It’s not enough! I like to transfer my daily camera output to the iPad so I can see what my shots look like, and I find I frequently run out of memory.

I’d suggest a minimum of 64GB.

I have an iPad Air 2 with 128 gig. I have a bit over 30,000 pictures on it, along with lots of apps. I have 18.24 gig left. I am planning on buying the latest iPad Pro with 1tb of memory. I will also run Photoshop on it as well as my Windows machine.

Keep in mind that the new iPadOS will support connecting flash drives and external drives. Beta testers say some external drives require too much power to work, though. Should be a big help.

Lots of good advice, but in addition to storage space and connectivity requirements, what are your plans for basic electrical power to keep the iPad charged?

I have 2 IPad Pros 12.9” 1st and 2nd generation that I use for field and couch editing of RAW and JPEG .

the one I’m using to send this reply is a 128 gig 1st generation 12.9 “ that has 22,774 pictures on it ..it is still showing I have available 60.57 GB ...

My 2nd generation 12.9” IPad Pro I bought a year ago has 256 Gig ...double my 1st generation which has 22,774 pics on it ...

The 3rd generation IPad Pro is out .., you might consider for field work getting the smaller IPad Pro ..has the same camera and processing power as It’s big brother ...and fits into the back pack ..

I went to the 12.9 “ to make the editing easier to see and do ..., be sure to get an IPEN .., works well ..

128 will do you .. I have a 128 GIG with over 22,000 photos and still have a 60 GB balance .. 12.9” first gen IPad Pro ...

I have a 2nd gen with 256 gig ...12.9 “ ..

You can find excellent value on eBay ... my 2nd generation is lightening fast and the most you need is 64 gig if your not going to store a lot of photos and just want to edit ..

I should have bought a 512 gig instead of a 128 .., but I got a steal on eBay open box ..

Pic attached show my photo programs and the general stats as of today on my 1st gen 12.9 IPad Pro

Good luck ...

1st gen 12.9 IpadPro 128 gig photo programs...

I using the expand flash drive from SanDisk-lighting connecter- and I believe the iPad Pro 3gen can be connected to an external drive c-connects -ssd are really small.
On my iPhone 7+ with 256 GB I have over 8000 pics -raw, jpgs Nikon 810- and 240 videos......

How many pics do yo think you will take? How many days is your trip? How many pics/day to you think you will take? Multiple total_pics x raw+jpeg_file_sizes to get the free memory you will need.

Alternately, how big are you memory cards? How many times do you expect to fill them up? Multiply those two numbers and that will give you an idea of how much storage you need.

You will need more memory than the amount calculated above, because the device has to have room for its operating system and other programs and data.

As a wild guess, IF you take 50 to 150 pics per day, a 30 day trip, and your raw+JPEG file size is 50mB: then you will need 75 -225 GB of storage to store the raw+jpeg images.
