I've done the search a few times but mostly I see people are discussing how they are/were always on backorder.

I have been using the 300mm version and like the size, light weight, and results.

Thanks to Uncle Sam's stimulus checks and 5% back on the credit card, I will only have to spend $17.10 of 'earned' money. After a year of being cooped up, I see a lot of walking in my future. A pair of light lenses should be a good fit.

Brings back the memories. I built one when i was a kid growing up in India. Still remember the crystal part no. OA79 made by BEL (Bharat Electronics Limited, India). It was a very simple circuit. Had a ferrite rod that I used inside of a copper wired coil wound by hand on a tubular cardboard . Had to move the ferrite rod to a particular position inside that coil to get a good reception through the earphone. Also needed a simple outdoor wire antenna on my roof top and a good earthing that i had to dig outside my house deep enough put in charcoal and salt with an iron rod and attached a wire to the rod and connected to my circuit. Successfully was able to receive the local radio station.

I am so frustated. Yesterday i posted a couple of pictures of Short Eared Owls that i took. I don't know why my posting does not show up in the main photography discussion. Afer i posted it briefly showed up in the up coming topics and couple of them saw it. That's all i saw of it and after that did not show up in main photography discussion. Understand usually that it should up after a day. On the home page when i post, i go into forums sections , main photography discussion and in there i click on create new topic and then post my images with share original when i attach images. Can fellow hoggers tell me what is happening ? If i did anything wrong when i posted. Thanks.

Very Nice. How do you like the A99 with this 500 f8 reflex lens combo ? I have the Minolta AF 500 F8 lens and considering picking up a Sony digital SLR body. Still looking don't know which body would be ideal, as need one with IBIS I guess. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

Excellent capture ! Very nice Regis. I finally picked up my RF 800mm lens yesterday. So, lightweight and pleasure to handle. Couple questions, do you use a protective UV or haze filter with this lens ? It is 95mm filter dia. Wondering if I should protect it ? Also did you purchase a lens hood and do you use it for all your pics with this lens ? Thanks

The Capilano suspension bridge is a bridge crossing the Capilano river in north Vancouver, BC, Canada. It has 460ft long and suspended at 230 ft above the river. Throughout history since 1889, the year the bridge was built, it has had several owners. The last one bought the park in 1983. Today on the west side of the canyon we can enjoy walking the footbridges suspended between the trees 100ft above the forest floor. The photos are self-explanatory and the two birds, the owl was part of the forest and the hawk was there with the instructor. This last photo is a composition in PS because the original background was terrible.

Nice set and information. Was in Vancouver 20 years ago. Capilano bridge was in the places to visit but spent most time walking Stanley Park and the city area, Butchart gardens in Victoria, etc. Did not go here. But planning to go again some time. Thanks for sharing.

Honeybees pollinate 80 percent of the United States’ insect crops -- over $20 billion worth of crops each year.

Images in this post all were captured in RAW using an EOS 5DIII. The files were processed in Adobe Lightroom 6 with additional noise processing in Topaz DeNoise 6. Except for the first image from the Denver Botanic Gardens, all images feature the EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM. Use the URL links that are the titles of each image for access to the EXIF details.

Honey will not rot or ferment when stored under normal conditions, but it will crystallize over time. Although crystallized honey is acceptable for human use, bees can only use liquid honey and will remove and discard any crystallized honey from the hive.

Honey is a biological mixture of inverted sugars, primarily glucose and fructose. It has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.

Chicago’s longest string of subzero days is 10, logged more than a century ago in January 1912.

Frozen Lake Michigan by Paul Sager, on Flickr

Chicago is currently in a stretch of cold where temps are forecasted to stay below 40F well into late February 2021, a cold stretch we haven't experienced since 1985.

Frozen Lake Michigan

Ice balls can usually be seen in late December and early January when temperatures fall into the teens and single digits. Cold temperatures cause heavy lake-effect snow to form a layer of floating slush on the lake. Wave action sculpts the slush into spheres.

All images shared in this post were captured starting around 7:00am Saturday February 6, 2021 along the shore of Lake Michigan at Chicago's Belmont Harbor. The RAW images were processed in Adobe Lightroom 6 with an HDR effect from Topaz Adjust. The EF 70-200mm f/4L was used with an EOS 5DIII.

Chicago's Lake Park was renamed to Lincoln Park in 1865 after Lincoln’s assassination.

Archery exploded in popularity in the 1870s and several locations were founded in Lincoln Park. The Lincoln Park Archery Range has been located near Belmont Harbor since the 1930s.

During the Great Chicago Fire, started on the night of October 8, 1871, the fire swept through the city along a four-mile corridor. Three hundred people died, 100,000 were made homeless and 17,500 buildings were destroyed. Chicago roared back to life following the disaster. The city centre was laid out on a new grid. New forms of fireproof construction went rivet-on-rivet with the latest building materials and components.

Charged with bringing their city back to life and pre-eminence, and to outdo New York, Chicago’s architects used the newest mass-produced, high quality, low-cost steel to build sky high. Until the mid-19th century, five stories had been the normal maximum height of commercial and residential buildings. The world’s first skyscraper was the 10-story Home Insurance Company completed in 1884. Chicago now has 52 building standing 600 feet or taller (183 meter). The former Hancock Tower is 100 floors and is now the 5th tallest building in Chicago and the 13th tallest in the USA.

Snowmen appear in European literature as far back as the 1300s. In North America they tend to have three spheres representing the head, torso, and lower body, while in the UK they tend to have only two.

2014 Snow Days Chicago by Paul Sager, on Flickr

Snow sculpture is comparable to sand sculpture or ice sculpture in that major events are practiced outdoors, and often in full view of spectators, thus giving it kinship to performance art.

2014 Snow Days Chicago

Snow sculptures are usually carved out of a single block of snow about 6 to 15 feet on each side and weighing about 20 - 30 tons. The snow is densely packed into a form after having been produced by artificial means or collected from the ground after a snowfall.

The Saint Paul Winter Carnival (St Paul, Minnesota) is the oldest annual winter carnival in the world, with the first one being held in 1886.

In 1885, a New York reporter wrote that Saint Paul was, "another Siberia, unfit for human habitation" in winter. Offended by this attack on their city, the Saint Paul Chamber of Commerce decided to prove not only that Saint Paul was habitable but that its citizens were very much alive during winter, their most dominant season
