I've done the search a few times but mostly I see people are discussing how they are/were always on backorder.

I have been using the 300mm version and like the size, light weight, and results.

Thanks to Uncle Sam's stimulus checks and 5% back on the credit card, I will only have to spend $17.10 of 'earned' money. After a year of being cooped up, I see a lot of walking in my future. A pair of light lenses should be a good fit.

I have the 500pF and the 300pF. Both offer great clarity and color rendition. I run them on my D850, D500, and D7200. The 500pF on any body is a light treat to carry. I dismount the battery grip and the 500pF on my D500 is fast and fun!

I attached a recent BIF shot. D500, 500pF attached! Fast and light as compared to the 200-500 (I also own one).
Others recommend checking All lens outlets for copy.

Thanks for replying. I'm figuring the 500 on the D500 with the 300 on the D850. That should still be lighter than one of the heavy lenses on a tripod.

Go for it Bill! I know I have seen several post on here where they were using that lens but I don't remember who.

Yes! I run that way at times. I like the crop sensor cameras though. Gives me 450 and 750mm respectively. The D850 really does a good job of rendering images, though IMHO. Either way you win! I have a Cotton Carrier. The D500, 500pF goes in the central attachment point, either D7200 or D850 with the 300pF attached goes on the other attachment point. I also carry the D850 with a wide angle on a neck strap with a wide angle glass attached. I have moderate to severe arthritis so keeping the weight down allows me to travel a good ways with all of that gear and tripod stool as well.

Go for the 500pF! It is a great lens. Check out all of the outlets-someoone has to have it on their shelf! Good Luck!

Bill, I use the 500 f5.6 on my D500. That lens has pretty much lived on my D500 for the year that I've owned it. Purchased mine locally from The Photo Center in Brick, NJ. Paid the NJ sales tax, but I didn't want to wait for B&H to finally come through. Well worth the extra expense.

Thanks Carol. If I get it you'll be seeing more pictures of little birds.

Good to hear Mike. I am not in any hurry and willing to wait for the $180 cash back from Amazon.
In the mean time the 300 F/4 pf is a nice lens to carry on a walk. It's what I used to catch the fox.

If I wasn't convinced before, your last Sandhill Crane left no doubts.

Thank You.

Funny how these stores work. All day long Amazon has been showing just one left. But, the vendor kept watching back and forth between Focus Camera and Berger Brothers. Now the one left is from Adorable, even though their site says backordered. Mean while, Nikonusa was showing delivery in three to five days. B&H says in stock in 7 to 10 days.

The ship from China must be getting close.

I got mine Ina week when I ordered from a local camera dealer. I am considering getting a better tripod and gimbal to use with it.
