Thanks for your input. Ive been told that if you are willing to pay for film (IR film, specifically) that you can shoot IR with any film camera. Do you know if that's true?? but then you would have the expense of film, processing and printing, right?...................RJM
Yes, that is true, but if that son of your friend wants to take more than a few dozen pictures in his lifetime, it is FAR MORE WORTH IT to make the additional capital investment cost of having a digital camera converted for some $200-$350.

has there ever been an "IR" section of the hogg? anyone have examples of some IR pics? A friend of mines' son is just a terrific sketch artist, and thinks that a IR digital camera might be something USEFUL to him....Anybody know how that might be so?..............................RJM
There is an IR section here, but it’s small and relatively inactive, in my humble opinion.

To answer your second question, just how much is he willing to spend on either an IR-converted digital camera or an FS*-converted digital camera? The latter’s versatility comes at the price of almost always using an external filter, thus the camera (if a compact=bridge and not an ILC^,) would have to have threads for a filter.

* - FS = Full Spectrum
^ - ILC = Interchangeable Lens Camera

Curious about whether you got a speed booster after this thread ended?
It may take a few months, but I doubt it’ll be an A to E one.

Sure I have my political preferences. And I'm sure you do to. But I don't advertise it here on a photography forum. But the point is... we don't need that stuff here... from either side. We get enough of it every day. Wouldn't it be nice to escape it a little?
There is one way I know of to minimize the "variety" of these ads that track your browsing history: use a browser like Duck Duck Go! It actually works, i.e. none of the topics or associated merchandise I encounter when browsing on DDG is subsequently manifested in an advertisement, whether here on UHH or on other sites.

Just read a post here about filters which got me started on this question: Is there a "Best" brand for filters or no? ...
NOT to necessarily place the burden on you, BooIsMyCat, but through 2100h on page 3 of your topic, there has not been a single post concerning filters that let selected portions of the UV and/or IR spectrum pass through!

Be it known that some of the photographic filter manufacturers mentioned thus far DO make some of these, including Heliopan, Hoya, B+W, and Singh-Ray, though they are not the only ones.

As for which is "Best," it would be useful if one were to list some useful criteria.

Thank all your comments and I pledge guilty for lack of posting algorithm experience. Comments on the contents would be much appreciated.
A humble stance on your part, gkl. Since I am ignorant of much of the protocol here, I am obliged to be neutral. I ask two questions with respect to what course one in your position might do:

A. How does one know whose advice to follow? Perhaps those rendering such advice should cite the URL, chapter and verse of a particular section's rules as proof?

B. Why can’t the OP of each independently initiated review of these lenses simply list, to the best of his/her knowledge, the other recent or concurrent Topics and their respective URLs?

Priest? Wrong religion, and certainly I’m not viewed that way here. Oh, and who condemned you? And to what?

I’m serious. If you’ll cease playing the victim role, I believe you’ll find that no one did.
Cheer up! 😉

Could just be me, but why use all these acronyms in the first place. Laziness comes to mind, but that's just a guess.
Al,

"Laziness?" Are you being flippant or serious?

Sorry, but I believe it is just you and a handful of Luddites. Acronyms and the like are ubiquitous. The point I made, subsequently reinforced by another Hog, oh one who speaks of laziness, Al, did you bother to review the entire thread?) is simply that most acronyms need to be DEFINED when they are introduced for the first time. That’s all.

To finalize the issue----------
I commited the biggest sin. The Religion of UHH states clearly---never ask a question ,never post a question.
Mea Culpa! Mea Culpa! Mea Maxima Culpa!!

Oh, bull!

There is no such sin. The closest you came to "committing one" was your not responding soon enough to those who asked you to clarify it, but that may been involuntary on your part. I suggest you endeavor to make your question clearer and reply in a more timely fashion next time. If that means not writing it off the top of your head impulsively, then don’t. If that means writing a draft, sleeping on it, THEN reviewing it, then do so. Repeat drafting as needed; that’s what I often do.

Stay Safe!

This latest question of yours is now irrelevant. He did subsequently respond, rather vaguely. You simply haven’t read the entire thread. There’s absolutely no point in debating this any further as it is now moot.

Stay healthy. 😎

Quote: "I'm sorry, Itatko, I don’t understand why you bothered to create this topic. Is it that you’re trying to send a message to those members who post comments/questions and don’t think to use an Internet Search Engine FIRST under ANY circumstances?!!"

Probably, because in another tread somebody asked that question, and Itatko decided to answer it on a tread if its own.
"Probably?" Gee, you might be correct! But why not be explicit instead of cryptic, withdrawn into the machinations of one's own mind?

Answer: Because at the time, it likely didn’t occur to him. BUT then, ONCE solicited, why not clarify? And therein lies the problem for some.

And Sony got several, including Camera of the Year 2020, for it 61 mp Sony A7RIV ... this camera is amazing.
Well, I guess I should be glad that you’re proud of your expensive camera, feeling justified, likely in retrospect, about spending all that money on it. I, too, felt that tiny retrospective jolt of justification when I bought my first digital ILC in 2006, the Sony dSLR A-100, and then again in 2010 when I bought the Sony dSLT A-55.

But I have to wonder whether billnikon is right! I suggest you go back to page 2 of this topic and read his post of 07:47:16.

Good reply and explanation, though not of the original acronym I am still in the dark about. My background in addition to photography is in Biology. For academic publications one is usually required to write out even common terms the first time they are used in a paper. Sure most people know what DNA stands for. But does everyone know EDTA, ATP, GC-MS.
So you understood my point and I didn’t "bore the hell out of you" like some other Hog was. Good to know. Thank you for your feedback. Stay healthy!
