Just read a post here about filters which got me started on this question:

Is there a "Best" brand for filters or no?

I've read articles where different brands were "tested" and shown to give different results than one might expect or want.

I have stayed mostly with Singh-Ray and Lee (Little/Big Stopper) filters. Just wondering if there is a less expensive alternative that produces the same results.

Most differences will only be evident under laboratory conditions,
not to the human eye (& mind).

(Except for your dollar-two-ninety-eight filters.)

No. I use B+W, but any quality brand will give you good results. Remember the highest price does not guarantee highest quality, but cheap is cheap.

I got rid of all my Lee filters (too much color casts) and use Singh Ray only now and I'm happy with them! Hoya and B&W do have a few nice once too!

Thank you!

That's why I asked the question. Some filters produce unwanted color casts. Lee filters are not cheap either.

I don't like "pissing" money away either, but putting a cheap piece of glass on several thousand dollar rig makes no sense You buy cheap--you get cheap. In the end Cheap may actually cost more money the more expensive

The question was not about "cheap" filters... it's about finding reasonably priced filters that are close to or equal to the expensive ones.

Here's a useful link and relatively recent analysis:

I still use my polarizers made for film by Tiffen. These are single coated filters that in my case I prefer to multi-coated filters. I recently bought a 3 stops ND Tiffen filter and it renders images with a slight warm color that I favor. Do not expect everyone to notice that slight shift in color.
The only ND filter that I know of that will not shift color is Breakthrough all the other do to a certain extent and that includes the most expensive filters.

Look at Breakthrough Photography filters as well... they have some quality filters.

Yes, there are many producers of filters that are a lot less expensive than LEE filters.
Below is a shot taken with a Tiffen 10 stop 77mm ND filter, Nikon D800, 20 sec. f8, Nikon 16-35 mm f4 at 24mm. NO, once again, you do not need the most expensive filter to get the results you want.
