Wow! So far I'm liking Beinbalance's Catskill Pix, I know that area, and Anabelle's "Hotbed."
My 2 cents. :)

You know how to make my day. For the thoughtful comment, I'm forwarding a little present. Some more views of my corner of the world. Hope you enjoy them.

Welcome to Ugly Hedgehog's very first Photography Contest. This will be a community run Bi-Monthly contest, open to all members of Ugly Hedgehog.

The rules will be relatively simple.
1. Entry to have been taken in the last month unless otherwise specified by the contest host (please do not go thru your achieves).
2. Theme will be picked by the Contest Host.
3. Contest will run for 2 weeks, after which the Contest Host will pick the winner.
4. You may enter up to 3 photos per contest.
5. The entry must be your own work.
6. Entries to be uploaded directly by entrants to the Contest Thread.
7. Contest Host will be determined by the previous Contest.
8. New rules may be added as the Bi-Monthly Contest grows and morphs.

I do hope that the Contest Hosts will provide feedback as to why they picked the entry that they did, but please remember this is for fun. I have volunteered to manage the contest overall, that does not mean I will judge entries (unless I am the Contest Host that week), or sway judging.

So with that, here is the first challenge:
Theme: Your City/Neighborhood
Due: October 30, 2011
Winner will be selected by: November 4th

Please post your entries in this thread for consideration.
Good Luck and get there and shot something!

If it were as simple as having the "best" camera, I would mortgage my house, buy the best camera in the world, and instantly become Ansel Adams.

Ansel didn't have access even to the lowest level of photographic technology that each of us has today yet his work is classic and his art is stunning.

My philosophy on equipment has always been that when your talent develops far enough the the equipment limits what you're able to do, then it's time to upgrade your equipment.

Amen! It isn't the camera, it is your vision and the light!

There are some internet sites that will sell you pictures also. One of them is advertised on the first page of this forum (zazzle). I have never used them but you might take a look. Never worry about criticism, if you like it, someone else will also, and for those who don't like it, well, they have no taste :-)

Thanks for the suggestion. I am a little embarrassed, I am not the baby that I ended up sounding like... :-) After 5 years of photo film school, I am used to critics.... But just always think it could be better! Thanks so much for your kind words....... Really appreciate them! And you are right! Those who don't like our work, have NO taste! Thanks again!

The ONLY way to learn is to try and try again..... Just remember to have fun learning........ I am trying to find a shot I did of a parrot, where the bird was good and in focus, but was ugly background and not much I could do about it. So I just cropped right down to his eye and face feathers..... Now if I could only find it. What are you shooting in? JEG or Raw.... If you shoot in Raw, you will be able to crop you little heart away!
Happy Shooting!

Went looking for Bald Eagles, came up empty...still a little early here for them. But found this guy.

Would love some comments on how to edit. The sky was flat, and I'm new to this editing stuff, so I would appreciate suggestions.

PS...I do NOT have photoshop. On a Mac, with Aperature, and Viveza 2.

When I am editing a photo like this and I feel I need something to switch it up, I will go in and crop it WAY down and maybe just show the eye or the face and part of a wing. Take it way down fill the photo with the feathers and eye, go for patterns instead.... Just a thought.... But keep shooting, you will get what you want. Always pay attention to the light! Keep showing us your work, I will be looking forward to it!
