I was at the apple festival this past weekend and i walked into this booth that was full of BIG BLURRY pictures. as i walked around this man came out of nowhere and he seen my nikon d90 around my neck and he said that i needed to get me a real camera!!! i asked him what he meant and he said that i needed to get me a $500.00 cannon rebel ....so which is better ...the cannon rebel or the nikon d90??

I think you're doing just fine with what you have. The Canon Rebel is the low-end dslr for Canon. I have a 400D (which is a Canon Rebel XTi) and a 40D. I'm not familiar with the Nikon line, but I'm figuring that if you have the low-end Nikon DSLR, then it's a "push" between it and the Rebel.
In short, the guy probably doesn't know what he's talking about.

I'm not going to get into a Canon vs. Nikon debate (seems to happen on every single photography forum I have visited) cause it truly doesn't matter. The camera is only part of the equation when it comes to great photography.

I've seem some truly wonderful images taken with a Canon Rebel series and some really horrible ones, same goes for any model of Nikon.

None of the major camera manufacturers would stay in business or build the following of Canon OR Nikon withoiut good quality, dependable products. Use what feels good in your hand and shoot with your soul and your brain and you'll have success (whatever that definition is to you). I'm not dodging the question, but there are loyalists (and chest thumpers) to any brand...
Coke/Pepsi
Ford/Chevy
Lee/Wrangler/Levi... and they can all give you reasons why their brand is "best"

Agreed. When you start reading of comments of one better over the other, that's when it's "religion".

I have a d90, its an excellent camera, so are Canon's, your going to run into the Nikon faction and the Canon faction, both have their loyalists and their detractors, just about all DSLR's from the major manufacturers including, sony, olympus, pentax and others, are excellent cameras. Nikon and Canon offer the widest selection of accessories, especially if you ever want to just rent a lens or a camera body. So much of this is personal preference and the kind of photography you pursue. The d90 has been replaced by the d7000, but don't you believe that the d90 isnt a serious camera it very much is, without going into the realm and price range of the pro cameras.

If it were as simple as having the "best" camera, I would mortgage my house, buy the best camera in the world, and instantly become Ansel Adams.

Ansel didn't have access even to the lowest level of photographic technology that each of us has today yet his work is classic and his art is stunning.

My philosophy on equipment has always been that when your talent develops far enough the the equipment limits what you're able to do, then it's time to upgrade your equipment.

I own a D90 and a Nikon D700. The D90 is an excellent camera and does a great job. I've taken some fantastic pictures with it.

His preference for a Canon Rebel is his choice, that doesn't make it right for everyone. And if his pictures are blurry, why would you take his word for it anyway?

I find that uninvited advice is often not the best advice.

nikon d-90 was popular photography magazines camera of the year a few years back. course you couls also tell the person the next time this happens, that nikon optics are so good that even cannon in their early days had nikon make their lenses .(true fact) cannonites will reel back and hiss at that like vampires in the prescence of the cross. LOL said humorously, no offence to cannonites meant.

Photography does not just come from the make of the camera but from the brain that sees the image. Karl Lagerfeld the designer is also a friend. This man shot a show during Paris Fashion Week with a Kodak 110, now if someone would tell me that I would laugh, you had to see the photos he took. They were absolutely beautiful, so it has nothing to do with the camera, they just capture the image.
