Yep. Only one may try it. If an angle looks right, pleases you or just a sense of rightness, shoot!

I just move around until the "best" composition "presents itself." I can't explain it. It just happens.

Erie, PA is my current thinking to position myself in the path of totality.
The objective (I am a physicist) is to observe the deflection of star images
as the disc of the sun passes near, over, and away from their normal astronomical positions.
According to Steven Weinberg's book on General Relativity, the deflection is seconds of arc.
Are there ready solutions for this? If not, what help is available?

Well, Eddington's math and understanding of Einstein's general theory of relativity are beyond my comprehension. Eddington felt that he had demonstrated the gravitational "bending" of light by gravity thus stars would out of place if their light passed close to the sun. His he claimed his crude instruments had demonstrated this bending. Later more sophisticated studies supported Eddington's find. Do you want to "challenge" his well-supported findings by doing the same experiment? I fear this would be an exercise of futility.

Sometimes files get "deleted" accidentally but all that means is that one number or letter (usually the first one) gets changed but is still there although you can't see it. Get ahold of a competent computer specialist and see if he/she can resurrect them. They are usually there for awhile until written over by later files. So look into this right away. Now if you were a crook and erased the files and deliberately overwrote them the FBI and other such agencies can bring them up! But no such luck for you I do hope!

Why at 74 is there any stress at all in learning something new?
Age should never be a factor to learning.

At 90 I'm still learning. But I see no need for me to go mirrorless. Yet.

"Epictetus: 'He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.'"

I read this and start thinking about it in regards to my camera gear. Currently it seems the emphasis of most people is to get rid of their digital gear and get mirrorless gear. I don't have that desire at present. I feel like I still don't know how to use what I have correctly yet. So I will concentrate on learning how to use what I have and be glad I have all of it.
Just a few thoughts on the start of a new chapter of my life. I hope all have joyous days and long life.

When you want the most from your car's air conditioner, you set it to Recirculate. Wouldn't the same thing work with the car's heater? Instead of heating the 20° air from outside to 70°, the heater would be maintaining the 70° air inside the car. Of, course, you could switch it to Fresh Air occasionally.

Of course. Both hot summer when on AC and cold winter when on heater. I've been told that when you turn to recirculate some air form outside is let in so you're not totally shut off from fresh aid.

Looks like a nice itinerary. You are going to Port Angeles and Forks. You get to drive over two amazing bridges to get to Port Angeles. One suspends and one floats. Don't have your camera in the trunk and be alert for a photo spot you can pull into.

Early July weather is a little risky. Only about half of my 4th of July celebrations have been in clear weather. Bring something so that you can use your cameras in inclement weather.

If it were me, I would get to Port Angeles a couple days early and go to Victoria. There is a big boat that goes back and forth between Port Angeles and Victoria every day. As a walk on, you go for cheap. At the Victoria end, it is an easy short walk to a variety of hotels. Spend a night or two. Victoria is special for photographers, eaters, shoppers, historians and everyone else.

The Puget Sound area is so unique, that you should consider a scenic flight. I used to pilot those out of Gig Harbor's Tacoma Narrows Airport. You pass by there after you cross the big suspension bridge. The scenery (on nice days) is so good, I never had an unhappy customer. Most were so thrilled that I got tips exceeding my pay!

Yes Victoria BC Canada! Quaint. And above all Bouchart Gardens. Unblieveably beautiful.
