I have one of these - works great, if you can find 8mm tapes. Much easier to download than my new Sony Handycam.

Spray can adhesive will work. You could photograph the back side of a finished puzzle and create a pattern.
1/4 inch Luaun plywood would work fine. It's cheap at Menards, etc.
