I have a D7000 as well and this does work. I process all of my images in lightroom first then move to photoshop. I do have CS4, but always use lightroom first. You can try converting it to a DNG (digital negative) when you export it from lightroom. I don't think you lose too much info from the raw format that way and photoshop works well with the dng format.

We have gone down this road before..cs3 does not have a raw converter for D7000.. you are right in that you have to upgrade..crazy but true. The only other solution is to get elements 10 for around $80.00 ..bring in your raw files..make your adjustments and then hit go to photoshop from there..otherwise you are stuck with the DNG converter. good luck. The other option would be to get lightroom 3..bring the raw files into lightroom and then move to photoshop but make sure this will work ..call adobe..or talk to someone who has lightroom..and whether its is compatible with CS3

I really love this shot. The only change I would make is to turn the pink blanket behind her head pitch black like the left upper corner.

new to photgraphy too as well as pp. How did you do it ? take out the blanket and arm and make dark. remove and recolor it???? would love to learn more tricks :)

I do almost everything in Photoshop. Doesn't matter what version you have. I learned everything I know by just playing with it and watching you tube tutorials...

This is how I see it in Black and White....converted in Photoshop CS4 and set intensity to lighter.

You have a great eye. The composition is excellent!

I do portraits. This is a great start. I would leave the blankie there. It adds just a touch of color. Hope you don't mind, but I played with it just a tad. I softened the skin with a Photoshop action and added a medium vignette with Topaz Labs.
I would hang this one on the wall for sure!

I've read the manual on how to use this but can't get it to work. It's new but maybe the battery is dead. Maybe I need to put on a tripod to get it to focus. Any secrets?
Thanks so much

I had the same problem...I didn't have the camera in remote mode. Not sure where it is on the 5100, but the 7000 has a dial on the top left and it is located just below that, on the 60, it is buried in the menu.

Fun shot, really draws you into the image. I can see this as a big wall print that would surly have a wow factor. . .say 30x30 square.

Does anyone else think that this female looks alot like Shirley MacLaine?

Thank you! I appreciate your compliment.
I was trying to think of who she reminded me of. You hit the nail on the head!

I have to agree with D2Hundred, this is a well composed shot. The focus on the eyes draws you in. It always helps to have an attractive model with real camera presence. I definitely think its a keeper.

Not sure you understood my comment. It may be a keeper but I wouldn't consider it a home run.

I'm still learning as I go. I am happy with the keeper.

Thank you. I tried to be creative and convert to BW and then put the color back in the eyes, but the orange reflection of the leaves in the left eye make it a bit freakish.

What do you think about the composition of this image? It was a chance shot in between images at a shoot yesterday. It has kind of stuck with me, but not sure what to do to improve. All suggestions welcome.

What program do you use?

~I've never tried masking. I do have older versions of Photoshop CS2 & Elements, but as of yet been a bit intimidated to take the time to check them out, especially when using the current 'simpler' program I'm using...

I use Photoshop CS4. I got it when I was in school, and have spent so much time trying to learn it, I don't have the heart to dive into a different one just yet.

For this one, I converted to bw and then used the eraser to remove the bw from the areas I wanted the color. Then I played with the opacity and hue/sat until it was how I wanted it.

I've done a couple of these, can be a little time consuming (maybe due to the simple, uncomplicated software i use; Adobe Photo Deluxe Home Edition) but I like the results.
I'm happy w/ these unless otherwise noted, thoughts...?
(my profile pic to the left is another example)

And remember; show me yours!
(...and what program did you use?)

I'm partial to the red. It just fits the mood.

Basically any camera you use should automatically record the metadata. It is attached to the file as EXIF info. The easiest way to view it is to right-click the thumbnail of the photo and select properties (if your computer is Windows).
Metadata can be awfully handy.

I'm aware of that, and I sometimes strip this data before posting online, but not always. I just think if we have to get that technical on info, you need to be on a site for professionals, that's all.

I think that if you are asking for a critique or help with the actual capture of the image, then if you have the metadata it would be good to include it. If you want help with how to edit, then it isn't necessary. If you are a film photographer, this all would have to be recorded manually at the time you take the image, and as RenoMike said, it isn't always possible to to that. I don't think the info should be mandatory to post.

I like the original better. The sun spots are not too prominent and do not detract from the image. In some cases, they give that
"magical" or "forresty" feel....which works here because they are sitting in the trees on a fall day. I really like this image and would be proud of it!
