Took just pre-covid...a great photo trip way up the Amazon...almost to the border of Brazil. Used my Canon d-7 & the 100-400mm Canon. Today I shoot wildlife with Canon R5 & Canon 100-500mm. The D-7 is now used by my Grandson. Kept my 100-400.

In addition to a multitude of Jaguar shots, the trip was replete with Giant Otter and many birds.

Any doubt where the name stilt comes from?

Shot at the Riverwalk Parkway in Riverside, CA last Tuesday just before 3 PM. This is a heavy crop from a much wider frame.

R7, 100-500L @ 324 mm, 1/800 @ f/8.0, ISO-250
hand held at a bit less than 63'.

A fun shot & thanks for sharing technical details.

I know I'm going to get static for this but: Great pictures, like the one you almost got, are accidental/lucky coincidences having absolutely nothing to do with photographic skill or fps. If you had pushed the button 1/10th of a second later you would have missed the the shot you got and gotten the shot you missed.

After 60 years of shooting...I agree 100% but like fishing...if you want fish you need to be on the water.

I think it is a masterful shot 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍 I downloaded it and did an automatic levels adjustment. If you were to do that, I think you would be even more thrilled by the pop that it gives to the results 🤗🤗🤗

Would you send your post photo image. I do not know how to do an automatic level adjustment.

Many thanks

I proudly use my Canon-branded camera strap. I've adjusted the length to perfectly wrap around my right wrist, not too tight, not too loose, with a few loops. I can go hours holding the camera by the camera grip, but with no fear of dropping the camera as letting loose of the grip causes the camera to drop just a few inched where the strap tightens on my wrist. This is how I can free my right hand for other uses.

But, for your need for hiking, look at a sport sling such as a Black Rapid Sport that screws into the tripod mount on the bottom of the camera and hangs the camera at your waist.

Great Idea...never thought of around wrist.

Joe,

I use LR at a rudimentary level. How do I accomplish what you suggest?

Many thanks

I have used LR for over a decade, it's a nightmare when I work on my PC in the field and try to import that catalogue onto my desktop at home.

An associate suggested the following:

1. Set LR on my portable to automatically write to XMP when downloading...looked like a no brainer...Cat. settings>
Meta Data>Set to automatically write to XMP when downloading. Even though I set up to automatically write to XMP it never shows up! All suggestions greatly appreciated.

2. Once done, the designated Picture file on my portable when put on desktop will have all of the meta data with LR enhancements that I have made in the field.

3. Import into Desktop LR and I should be home free with all LR enhancements now on Desktop LR...sounds great but I cannot get step one to work.

Aloha UHHs,

I was about to press the purchase button for the Canon R5. But, I got cold feet after reading some of the reviews they were experiencing on Canon's website. Rating for this camera looks like a C+. For those who owns the R5, are you currently having or had issues with the camera itself? Is there a concern that I should be aware of?
This purchase would have been my last upgrade from my Mark 5DII, and I'd be taking it on my upcoming international travel.

My second choice might be the R7.

I have both the R5 & R7. The R5 is the finest wildlife camera I've ever owned. I'm 80+, the camera is very forgiving at Higher ISO's so I do push the speed to compensate for my shake. My go to lens is the RF 100-500mm. FYI, I tried my EF Canon 100-400 with adaptor...I found that set up too unbalanced.

I agree, I use Topaz AI DeNoise w/LR and usually see a visible difference.
