While disturbing if accepted as the way of the future, I personally find idiocracy amusing and worth a chuckle as I bear witness to the many inventive ways idiots have found to self destruct. Darwin was right on target, but societies, religions, political parties and ambitious leaders have taken Darwin's observations to a whole new level. As sad as suffering may be, we bring so much of it upon ourselves through greed and dependence. Those who strive to grow and are willing to adapt will be the ones who populate the future. In the meantime, enjoy the show.
Not to say any of the other choices won't do the job, but I've used a Fujifilm XP which claims to be "Water/Shock/Dust/Freeze Proof". I kayak and have gotten both camera and myself wet on occasion with good results. Camera has a zoom feature which has been great. My only recommendation to the discussion is to attach the camera to a float so when the inevitable happens, the camera doesn't end up on the bottom.

I live in Vermont and go to Canada frequently. The enhanced drivers license is the least expensive option. Returning to the U.S. is easy, but doing so on a holiday can be bad since lines can be miles long.
Height isn't the issue for me. A fall from 40' can be as deadly as one from 400'. Slippage on loose gravel and the potential of having the ledge break off like the nose on New Hampshire's Old Man of the Mountain's bother me. Also, with so much to live for, I find a disregard for life, especially one's own, very sad.
Out of curiosity, Erv, is the bird you carved a Carolina wren? Your talent is certainly admirable as well as your wife's ability to bring your carvings to life. Thanks for sharing.
I think each of us can define success any way we choose; with work and determination there are going to be many opportunities to achieve that success. Obstacles are a certainty, but if they can't be circumvented, they may just turn out to be opportunities in disguise.

Spent an hour looking for the Arbor Restaurant when in fact my friend from Devonshire was waiting for me at the Harbour Restaurant.
I own a very nice curved screen TV and find that it really has no advantages except one: a viewer to the extreme right or left of the screen sees a better picture. From in front of the screen I see no difference between a curved or flat screen TV.
Having used propane and briquettes for years I finally made the investment in a Big Green Egg which uses and reuses natural lump charcoal. One bag will last me for a couple of months depending on the type of grilling or smoking I do. The precise temperature control, versatility, great flavors and easy clean-up sold me. Start up, whether 200˚ or 700˚ can be achieved in 10 minutes and with the 1" ceramic walls heat can be retained for hours. For unadulterated taste that cannot be achieved using gas or briquettes with additives or binders natural lump charcoal is the best way to go. PS I am not a BGE dealer, just a very satisfied user who grills 2-3 times each week year-round.
