It might not have anything to do with you directly. It may be because jrkarra got himself removed from the UHH or he dropped his membership. He posted a number argumentative replies to a post that may have included a political insult. He seemed to be one who wanted to or did buy your D800. So all associated posts went bye bye too. And are you positive it the was Admin who removed your post and not just another UHH'er pulling a trick on you? And the Admin does make errors, I have been the victim of that but usually of them not taking action on one of my complaints. Usually political posts just get sent to the Attic Section of the UHH and not simply delete. Take it easy.

The message was sent by the UHH administration.

I made a post several days agio about selling a Nikon D800. UHH sent me a PM telling me the post was deleted because it was political. What the hell.... selling a D800 is political!! I sent the UHH gurus a reply, asking them to please explain to me how that post was political, so far, no reply from the gurus! I am betting that the gurus don't have the guts nor the decency to explain to me why it was political in their eyes. prove me wrong UHH!

I read something last year that nine and three is safer than 10 and two. Can’t remember the source.

Years ago I taught my daughters how to drive. Now my last grandchild will be learning very soon. An important number I teach is 1.47, rounded off to 1.5. That is the distance the car travels in fps when multiplied by mph: i.e., 20 mph = 30 fps.
So, consider 70 mph, or 105 fps and the fact that it takes a minimum of 1/3 or a second to recognize that a problem is in front of you. That’s two car lengths before you initiate any action.
You can fill in the rest, city or interstate.

Is a Nikon D800, with less than 50,000 actuations, still a good buy (for less than $600.00) in 2022? I understand it qualifies as a dinosaur based on today's standards, but just wondering what others might think.

We asked earlier in December how (if) UHH has changed your photography. Now an annual reminder about goals (resolutions). Did you make and accomplish any for 2021? Should you make any for 2022?

Current Equipment

Are you learning to better use your current equipment?
Are you learning your processing software?
Are you organizing your legacy images?
Did you sell your unused and outdated equipment?
Are you using your tripod?
Are you organizing your new images?
Are you using your external (speedlite) flash?
Did you consolidate miscellaneous HDs into a single larger drive?
Did you implement and follow a back-up strategy for your image files, software install files, and passwords / credentials?
Did you investigate insurance / replacement costs of your equipment?
Did you download the PDF copy of your camera model?

Technique

Are you using Back Button Focus?
Are you using selective focus with an off-center AF point placed specifically on the subject?
Did you watch any utube training for your software?
Did you return to a prior subject with a new lens or technical approach to specifically improve on a prior attempt?

UHH Participation

Did you ask for help?
Did you answer a request for help?
Did you share any images?
Did you comment on any images?

Life

Did you make a photography-based trip?
Did the pandemic increase or decrease your overall photography effort?
Did you shoot any film?
Did you display your images on a digital frame or TV?
Did you print any images?
Did you sell any images?
Did you enter a photography competition?
Did you change to mirrorless?

Every journey, even one that takes years to complete, begins with the first step. Don't let a knowledge of the length, or just a fear of not reaching the end, stop you from ever even starting.

Enjoy the holidays and stay safe!

I am not a professional, I don't plan to be a professional, I just enjoy getting out in nature. I am not, nor will I ever be in competition with anyone in taking photos or having expert photography knowledge (although I do appreciate those who do have that expertise and are willing to share it). So, my resolution is the same as it has been for years, just get out, enjoy nature, take a few photos, and thank God that I am able to enjoy my "golden years."

Use a flamethrower/windshield washer! Skip ahead to about 5:00 to see it in action. I can't find this kit online anywhere. Maybe it will be available next year. And someone has to develop fireproof windshield wipers.

I have not had that problem of icy windshields ever since I moved to Florida.

Open your Custom Settings. Find AF w/Shutter and turn this to OFF. Next, set the AE-L Button to AF On. Ensure your camera is in continuous focus mode.

I can turn off BBF, but, after I do, I cannot activate shutter button focus, thus I am unable to focus, unless I turn on BBF again.
