hello there fellow hogs. hope all are well. listen, i don't know if it's me, or the fact that so many people have cameras now on their phones or what but i find it sooooo difficult to find anybody who's willing to pose for portraits!! and i'm talkin' for free too, i don't charge. i just enjoy shooting & quite frankly , i don't feel like i'm at a skill level where it would be fair to charge. is it just me? what can i do to improve my chances? i just hate it when they say, "oh, i don't photograph well". thank you all for reading my post & for any help or suggestions you may have.

buy your wife a spot there for her birthday & tell her you love her too much to be apart so you are coming too! lol

If only I lived closer! Nikon is running a school at Yellowstone Sept 18-23, for about $1600, including some meals. There is a two-page-spread in the new Pop Photo. Aside from the distance, my wife's birthday is that week, so being 2,000 miles away would not be a good diea.

if you're at the grand canyon, don't make the mistake i made. i hadn't heard of antelope canyon, so, of course, i didn't go there. don't miss out on that beautiful place, particularly during the summer months when the sunlight shines down into the slot canyon & pay the extra money for the photo tour as they afford you more time there & photo ops.

i may be completely off base here but have you considered hdr? i'm not even sure if that's a viable solution & i've never done hdr but it is supposed to give wider range, isn't it? just a thought.

Thanks....let me see if I can get across what they are wanting...they collect old antiques signs, old gas station stuff...etc...they like the galvanized steel background..and by saturday the back wall will have old the rustic signs hanging including their an old sign of their last name from a family mechanic shop...my hopes are to put them together half sitting and the rest standing behind them..I am in luck the barn has electricity but the lights are to high up I think for good lighting on them. They are going for a rustic look. We will see how it turns out...gotta love a challenge!!

you're quite right & i agree fully, however, even though it may look as a "posed" photo, trust me when i say, i grabbed & growled for this shot. it was only a very brief pause in the storm. this little guy was every where. not your most co-operative subject. lol

It did turn out good considering the circumstances you stated. I agree with everything 14kphotog stated and add that sometimes with children giving them something to hold or play with keeps them in place for a few minutes (or seconds). 8-)

yes, i don't even say anything usually when someone comes on here claiming to be a pro , but asking some of the most basic questions. it's like, if you have to ask that, you shouldn't even be considering shooting someones wedding.

Don't even get me started on people that call themselves "professional" photographers. It is one of my many pet peeves, I bite my tongue even on this forum when so called professionals post client pictures that wouldn't make it off this Mom's memory card. On a plus side those professionals don't usually hang out here for too long.

photosig is an excellent site that i highly recomend but it is provisional. you have to critique so many of others photos for the right to submit your images for critique.

Our grandparents actually prepared meals from real food. Now, we eat microwave food and ready-made meals - or we eat out.

Speak for yourself! Tonight: free-range chicken breasts with a home-made meat-and-tomato sauce & wild rice. Tomorrow: confit de canard (made from scratch, salting duck legs for a few days, then simmering for 2 hours in duck fat). Last night: prawn and mushroom curry (admittedly we used frozen raw tiger prawns). A couple of days ago: tartiflette, made from scratch with air-dried ham and Coulommiers cheese (though I usually prefer Reblochon)...

And that's just dinner. Brunch: oeuf brik with shallots, or piperade, or jambon buerre (we buy two or three whole air-dried hams each year, direct from the producer in Biota in northern Spain)...

If you want really good food, you have to learn where to buy it and how to cook it. Restaurant meals under about $50 a head are seldom in the same class as what my wife and I eat just about every day, and for a lot less than $50 a head.

Cheers,

R.
