i took this for a friend of their 2 yr. old. i think it turned out pretty good in spite of the harsh noon day sun.

You could put him on shady side of tree and use fill flash. He would not be squinting then. Just a thought.

you're quite right & i agree fully, however,even though it may look as a "posed" photo, trust me when i say, i grabbed & growled for this shot. it was only a very brief pause in the storm. this little guy was every where. not your most co-operative subject. lol

Another trick for fast kids is step back a ways with a telephoto lens an just watch and wait. They will relax and you get the shots.

It did turn out good considering the circumstances you stated. I agree with everything 14kphotog stated and add that sometimes with children giving them something to hold or play with keeps them in place for a few minutes (or seconds). 8-)
