I would like to take a vacation to the Grand Canyon this year. Does anyone have any recommendations on photo tours?

Do not get too close to the edge!
Take the pack mule ride down to the river there will be numerous photo opportunities if you meet the weight restriction, just an FYI. Then there is the South and North rims. when we went it took 4 nights 5 days to really appreciate the Grand Canyon and could have stayed longer.
I recoment the North Rim if you only have time for one side. 13,000 feet, up in the forest and lots of photo ops, plus better view into the canyon. South rim is more high dessert, a lot lower altitude. If you go north, look for White Tailed Squrels, only place in US they are found. Have fun, and I hope you have a few days, you'll need it.

Just an opinion but I disagree with ferrinmike. The south rim is much easier to get to and affords many more easy to access viewpoints. There will be more traffic and tourists there but not so bad that it will be a pain in the neck. The north rim requires driving up Hwy 89 to Jacobs Lake then turning south to the rim. In my opinion, although much quieter and remote it offers different but not better views than the south rim and once you are on the north rim viewpoints are fewer and difficult to access.
I think both siders are beautiful, and have their benefits. Very true, easier to get to depending where your coming from. I prefer the untouched pine forests, wildlife abundance, and less people. If you can go to both sides, it is worth it, just plan for a day of travel and about 200 mile trip. Which ever way he goes, he will love it. I don't know of any photo tours, I'll look online to see if there are any.

Thanks everyone - good ideas. Can you recommend a hotel or lodge to stay
5 minutes south of the park entrance on US 64 is the village of Tusayan. It has several nice motels, I prefer the Best Western. It also has quite a few restaurants, Helicopter rides, an Imax Theater, museum and other things. Of course there are the grand hotels within the park about 10 minutes north of Tusayan but in my opinion they are not as comfortable and are much more expensive.
if you're at the grand canyon, don't make the mistake i made. i hadn't heard of antelope canyon, so, of course, i didn't go there. don't miss out on that beautiful place, particularly during the summer months when the sunlight shines down into the slot canyon & pay the extra money for the photo tour as they afford you more time there & photo ops.

There is a glass-bottom walkway out over the edge of the canyon on the north rim. Never been there, but saw a program on TV about it being built. Probably get some awesome pics there. I think the Grand Canyon is a target-rich environment for grand photography (yes, pun intended...)
Never been there --just visited via TV tours. Bring LOTS of water is stressed often on every program.
Dress for the occassion is another warning.
the glass bottom walkway is not really in the grand canyon, it is on the indian reservation to the west only 2 hours from vegas . it is a good ride from the canyon itself. it does overlook the eastern end of the canyon. also you are not allowed to take anything out on the walk way and must go through detectors. its all so you wont drop anything on the glass and damage or scratch it, also must wear protectors on your shoes.and a few years ago when i went it was expensive had to pay for the whole package that they have dont know if its changed and only can pay to go on the skywalk

Quite a few years ago I walked from the south rim to Phantom Ranch in the bottom of the canyon and back in one day. In case you are thinking of doing this let me tell you it is a looong walk and uses muscles you don't ordinarily use so you will be very sore the next day! The trail is 7 miles long and drops 5000 feet from the rim to the bottom. If you are going to walk it I would recommend going down one day and back up the next. Also Google Phantom ranch for more information. Many photo ops along the way!

I looked into this before we went last year. Ended up NOT going. Seems it is a long drive on bad roads then you have to pay to park, pay to take a bus to the site, pay to walk out on it and NO cameras allowed.
