This was taken with my 50mm 1.8 and after going back to the raw image it seems I cut her off at the knees in the original composition not just the crop (oops) depending on the light tomorrow I will try to retake this in both portrait and landscape with her feet in the picture :) luckily the subject is my daughter and it's currently the school summer holidays in the uk :)
Once again thanx for the opinions and advice guys and again for the compliments regarding my littluns cuteness :)

I still have the original raw image so will try your idea on portrait alf and keep the legs in this time :) as I said earlier I do prefer loose compositions but I also like what you've done with the portrait cropping so thanks for the advice alf

Thank you for the compliment country mama she is a beautiful little kid, alf thanx for the opinion and I see your point on composition, I do however prefer a looser composition, thanx also to Nikron for the reply, one universal opinion seems to regard the darkness of the image, I agree totally that the image here is very dark especially when viewing on my iPad I think I may have to calibrate my monitor as it didn't seem that dark on my pc. Thanx for the advice and compliments guys

The uk gun laws were put into place by a government that believes the way to control anything is to ban it. The handgun ban in the UK had absolutely zero effect on gun crime in the uk as no criminals handed in their firearms just because they were now illegal...they were hardly carrying legal firearms in the first place. What the government effectively did was to prevent stable citizens who had the right to own guns from defending themselves against gun crime. Also how many police officers do we read about getting shot by some armed drug dealer while he was waiting for SO19 (the UK armed police division) to respond to his call, or that he was shot before he was able to report that it was a firearm involved incident. Please don't ever cite the gun control laws of the uk as a sensible option when they were devised by the least sensible people in this country. Just my 50 pence worth.

So how do you explain that the latest available figures for intentional killing with guns show the UK rate as 0.7 per 100,000 of the population, and in the USA as 3.0 per 100,000 of the population, or 40 times greater? Could it have something to do with the number of guns available? Banning guns removes them from circulation.

There has just been another shooting spree in the US, no doubt with legally held guns, though I stand to be connected.

Also it is slightly naive to believe that banning handguns removes them from circulation...it removes legal firearms from circulation but does not stop members of the armed forces selling guns retrieved on duty, or any of the 1001 channels that bring unregistered and illegal firearms into the UK, nor does it stop criminals converting so called deactivated firearms that you dont need a license for in the UK to fire live ammunition again.

Im Not saying that based on percentages gun crime is lower than in the US I was however saying that according to a report in the daily telegraph and the daily mail that gun crime has risen year on year since dunblane and the governments reaction to that tragedy. Banning handguns does not stop gun crime, that was my point.

In the UK Police Supervisors carry guns. It goes like this: Bang, Bang,--Central, central this is Officer 612, I am at ..... and I'm under fire. Send the Supervisor quickly, I need a gun.

Likewise at Buckingham Palace the Queens police carry not only sidearms but Full Automatic Shoulder weapons. Machine guns if you will, but then I guess the Queens ass is worth saving isn't it?

I'm guessing you have no experience of the uk police system. Police supervisors don't exist ( there are ranks ie constable, sergeant, inspector etc) and the armed police are a separate division sometimes referred to as the flying squad or SO19 and have their own ranks though these too follow the constable sergeant inspector route.

I too have an iPad with the camera connection kit, and I too am writing this on my iPad. I use a couple of editing apps on my ipad (snapseed, photogene and photoshop touch among others) and while none of them can compete with the productivity or workflow of program's like photoshop and bridge it is a great device for looking at photos on the move on a larger screen and for doing basic edits before uploading to Flickr and Facebook etc. one point I would make in line with what someone else said is don't take your images off the card during the import as the iPad shrinks the file size, so if u want a full size copy of the image re upload them when you get back home to your pc or laptop. When I go away from home I always take my iPad and our laptop, which conveniently has CS5 and bridge on it I also have a mobile wifi device from tmobile so am ready for any eventuality, am starting to think I may be overdoing it though lol but hey I do love a gadget :)

Violet, as you are in th UK, SRB Griturn sell filters. You can by expensive ones like Lee, or thier own, which are very reasonably priced (they make their own filters). Here's the link: http://www.srb-griturn.com/

You can also try premier ink and photographic (do a google search) I just ordered a p type holder adpater rings and. 2 graduated neutral density square filters for less than £30 the good thing about square filters is you can use upto three at the same time in the holder I bought and if you have lenses of different thread sizes you just buy adapter rings to fit those lenses most of the adapters are only £4:99
Hope this helps

Seems to me like oxygen is just another flamed looking to cause a row on the forum...sigh

In response to the op's question I think we are a little guilty of equipmentitis from time to time and my rationing is if you have the money and you're not gonna starve if you buy it, go for it mate, you'll know if it's the right decision for you if you do some proper research and have a play with the camera in a shop prior to purchase. Other than that it's your money mate do with it what you will:)
