There are DOF apps you can download to your smartphone. You just plug in the numbers and voila!

I've always tried to wrap my head around why my subjects still have such harsh shadows behind them when I'm firing my direct flash from far away. This puts it into perspective for me, thx.

I use my 60d for school sports and even shooting raw, it fires off many frames that are tack sharp when I use back button focus in alservo mode. I have. 70-200 f4L mounted and it works well outdoors but you'll have to bump the ISO up indoors. The 60d does show some noise at higher ISOs. From my research, both the 70d and 6d handle higher ISO better. My ply concern with the 6d is the lack of AF points. I struggle with that on my 60d whith a fast moving athlete. The 70d has more points for better focus. I'm waiting for the 6d to come out with more points before I upgrade.

Also, rpavich is a fine example of what a ughh mentor should be. He is a professional that offers inspiring advice no matter what level the poster is at.

I'd have to take the time to reread posts to filter them out. I've read replies that indicate a new photographer acquire some entry level instruction on the exposure triangle before even posting. Of course, the advice came across unpolished and I'm sure the new photographer stopped in their tracks with that one.

I also believe in having specialized galleries so images aren't lost on the mix. As far as losing members, I've seen a decline in the repor on this forum since I began as a member. I'm on other forums that are more positive and offer cc without squelching the posters spirit for photography. Those other forums will block those that continually put down other members in an inappropriate manner.

This forum has a reputation for harsh criticism. If you post a comment or image, you better be able to take it. Some grow and some shrink with this type of criticism.

I still enjoy reading posts from longtime members that have so much knowledge to offer. And I'm one of the first replies that will not tolerate inappropriate dialogue.

I have iPhoto but my hubby uses it solely. I have LR4 and did spend 6 hrs perusing Scott Kelby vids on YouTube before importing photos. It's important to get your catalog set up properly. Think of your catalog as a big file cabinet and it will be easier to understand LR structure. YouTube is the way to go. I now toggle with PSE and still save my images and export from LR. Best move I made in buying LR.

I've got a 60d too and do get some noise when I use high ISO. My first canon flashgun was bought used and it worked well. I have the canon 430 exll now and it serves me we'll. but as other posters have mentioned, you need a faster lens to let in more ambient light. I've also played round with using a flashlight on the subject just to get the camera to focus, but that would be weird in a ceremony with a large group. Does your ext flash have a focus assist beam? That's why you need.

I didn't rcve the letter but an email. I went to Adobe's site and reset my password. I didn't get an offer for ID protection.

Ha! I see you're from Westchester Cty. I grew up in Orange Cty! Now live upstate away from the hustle and bustle.

Thanks for your tips in shooting on a cruiser. I own a Canon 60D with 70-200 f/4L and Sigma 15-70 2.8 that is my walk around lens. I do have a monopod and might just bring that! Thanks again!

I'm going on a cruise in a few months and wish to bring my camera and some equipment. Did you use a tripod for this great shot or hand held? Trying to figure out how to deal with the cruiser movement.

I believe the instructor wants the class to learn the effects of controlling the ambient light when using flash. Every photog has their go to mode on their camera. I prefer Av mode and manual modes. I hardly ever use Sv, as I like the creativity of using DOF to my images.

Extension tubes are used in macro photography. They don't help with increasing magnification of distance. A converter is what you're looking for.
