What is your opinion of kit lens. Are they going to produce good photos or do I need to sell them and get better lens? Thanks in advance. Bought a Nikon D7100 with two kit lens.

I don't think Nikon manufactures a bad Kit Lens. I have the 18-55VR that came with my Nikon D50 and it has always produced good pictures.

Got to thinking about the cameras I've had over the years and thought I'd pose the question - what was the first digital camera you bought?

My first digital was the 1st Generation Canon Rebel, EOS 300D (or DS6041) I bought back in 2003. When it first came out it was touted as the first connsumer-grade digital camera that could be had for under $1000 ($999.00 with kit lens). It has a whopping 6.3 MP sensor and came with a very crappy 18-55mm lens. I think the shooting speed is measured is sbuteconds-per-frame and not frames-per-second LOL. I still have this camera, and even occasionally shoot with it just for old time sake. For just stuff you want to paste to Facebook it's not too bad actually.

Mine was the counterpart to your Canon. The Nikon D50. It is still like brand new and I shoot with it often. If my D50 gave up the Ghost I would buy a used body to replace it. Many DSLR's, Point and Shoots and even Mirrorless cameras (Nikon V1) came after my Nikon D50 purchase but the D50 will always be my mainstay camera.

I am getting a little tired of changing lenses, so I was considering the Tamron 18-200 with V.R. cost is a big consideration. I want a walk around lens, any thoughts on this lens would help. Thanks in advance.........Mike.

I have the Nikon 18-200 VR lens. It seldom comes off my DSLR. I went through some lean years where I could not afford that lens and when it came time to buy it I also had the Nikon 18-300 VR on the table for purchase. Rented both lenses and chose the 18-200 for purchase. I have never looked back.

Pretty little plane.

It is a J3. Learned to fly with one. Decades ago.

Is anyone using a mirrorless camera? If so which one, and what do you love about it. If not and you know about them, please chime in. I don't ask for much do I. I would like this body purchase to be my last for the next few years.

Thanks.

I know that I'm setting myself up for some ridicule by asking this question, but are there are any SLRs that have image stabilization? I have fallen back to film for the trip that I'm currently undertaking and am finding it somewhat relaxing to be old school again even with having to waiting for film processing. I have DSLR's a plenty: Sony A57, Canon SL1, Canon point and shoot.

I'm currently shooting with 2 Minolta SLRs: 650si and QT si and a good assortment of lenses. The A-mounts will work on my A57 without any problem. The back of my mind is that I would like to do a full frame DSLR: Sony A7 ii, with the attachment for the A-mounts.

I would like to stay with the Minolta product line. Had a 400si a number of years ago and lots of lenses.

The QT si is the only film camera we have in house right now. Could not bring myself to part with it.

Any advice gladly accepted.

I just received the third lens I have purchased from eBay. I have had nothing but the best experience from eBay. I have always been totally leery because of the amount of money spent on each lens and truth of the seller, etc. Anyway, I have to say I am extremely pleased with them. My used 24-70VR I just received is in like new shape. Just like brand new and a US model to beat.

I buy my lens purchases from KEH or new. I would rather pay a higher percentage of a new priced lens because of their conservative grading service. When KEH states it is 'Like New' that is exactly what they mean.

I am looking to purchase the Nikon 35mm dx 1.8g lens, to use with my Nikon D3300 DSLR, I want advice and opinions from my fellow UHH's as to where I might find the best deal, including lowest Price, quality of product, warranty, reputation, reviews, etc. I have window shopped at many of the online stores, saw many prices, reviews, positive and negative opinions, just want to get the best quality with a very reasonable price. So, before I buy, here I am asking for your advice and opinions.

Thank you in advance for your UHH replies.

Been dealing with B&H, Adorama and KEH for decades. If you want to save some money go used if KEH has the lens in stock. Otherwise B&H or Adorama would be fine. They themselves admit that the only real competition they have is their counterpart in New York. Yes I have had people from both Adorama and B&H admit that to me when I was ordering over the phone.

I have a Nikon V1. Great camera.

I have the Nikon V1 also. Do 90% of my shooting with it now. Still have my DSLR's but they stay on the shelf for the most part.

Many photographers here have switched from DSR's to mirrorless systems. Seems many have done so because of the physical weight of the DSR system being to heavy for them either from a disability or from aging. Of course there are other reasons too and all are encouraged to comment.

The question is: if you could, no mater the reason you switched initially, would you go back to the DSLR. If you are happy with the change, let us know why; also please comment if the change has improved your images, or not, and why. If you would like to go back to the DSLR, tell us why. If you did go back we'd like to know why too. Basically, all reasons and experiences are welcome to be presented and discussed.

Also, let us know (for those of us that know little to nothing about the mirrorless world, including me. I am one of those pathetic Nikon users.) what you feel are the good systems and then the better cameras and lenses in those systems too. What would be the dream mirrorless camera and lenses to go with it. And what is your dream DSLR camera and lenses too.

I switched to a Nikon 1 system a year ago and have never looked back. That does not mean I stopped using my DSLR any longer. It does mean I shoot over 90% of my pictures with the Nikon V1 body however. I think my photos have improved but I might be wrong.

I purchased a used film camera from KEH, at a very good price. Upon inspection, after it arrived, I was disappointed in the overall condition of the camera and expressed this to KEH. They immediately provided me a PP return label. My credit card was reimbursed within a couple of days. At this point, I was very satisfied with the results. But then.....Are you ready for this?????...They also gave me a gift card for the full amount of the original purchase!!!! I used the gift card to purchase another, more expensive camera.

There are several good businesses out there selling used equipment, but I don't think you will find a better, more trusting one than KEH.

That is been my experience also. My entire Nikon 1 system was bought from KEH. The body and all the lenses including a flash. I have both sold and bought from KEH and they are "Top Notch". You can't go wrong with KEH. I have had the same customer care from Amazon, B&H and Adorama. All top quality companies in my book. Good to hear they treated you this way.

My dilemma-I would like to upgrade my Canon 60D and thinking of going mirrorless. What are the advantages of a mirrorless? I like that they are smaller and lighter. Since my hands are small, I think a mirrorless would fit me better. I've looked at a Sony a6000 and the Canon M3. Any advice?
Thanks and Happy New Year, Sylvia

I shoot with both. If God came down and said I could only have one camera I would keep the DSLR even though 90% of my shooting is now done with a Nikon 1 Mirrorless system.

A new camera should be in a sealed box. An open box to me is an open box, not a new camera. An open box mandates a lower price and many times it is called refurbed.
B&H is a reputable dealer. If I buy a new camera from them and the camera comes to me in an open box I immediately will contact them requiring an explanation.
I will not accept an open box unless a decent discount is offered.

My Nikon Camera boxes from B&H have never been sealed. Every person before this post has said the same thing. Nikon does not seal their Camera boxes.
